[UPDATE: Happy hour has been updated. It is between 5:30-6:30pm]

Gran Electrica is now offering happy hour specials (starting today, 11/26/2012), Monday-Friday, between 5:30-6:30p pm in their bar area. You may have tried their excellent tacos, tortas, and ceviches, but if you haven’t tried their tasty cocktails, bring a co-worker or friend and try them out. The Margarita de Toronja Picante, a Habanero-infused tequila, Combier, lime juice, fresh grapefruit juice, jalapeño syrup, spicy grapefruit salt or Mi Michelada, a refreshing Tecate Lager based cocktail with Valentina hot sauce, Worcestershire, lime, Clamato juice, celery & chili piquin salt are great choices. They also have Mexican beers, sodas, and Spanish wines on the menu.

NY Times reviewed Gran Electrica earlier this month.

Redbeard Bikes

A bicycle shop, Redbeard Bikes, opened at 165 Front Street in Dumbo last week. The shop replaces the former NOS Men’s store, which is relocating to a larger space at 81 Front Street. The hurricane pushed back the launch and construction of the store, but they’re open for business. Owner Ilya Nikhamin says that they will be selling performance bicycle brands, offering top-notch road titanium and carbon-fiber bikes such as Lynskey Performance Design and Parlee as well as Brompton folding bikes.

They will also sell parts and accessories (helmets, lights, pedals, shoes, and seats) and handle repairs. Welcome to Dumbo, Ilya!

The NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission lists the following two items in Dumbo and one in Fulton Ferry Historic District (via Community Board No. 2):

  • 1 Old Fulton Street — Fulton Ferry Historic District — A Greek Revival style saloon and hotel building built in 1835, and altered in the Italianate style in the 1860s. Application is to modify the storefront with French doors, retaining the existing residential entrance, columns, bay window, and cornice, with the last element extended around the building.
  • 68 Jay Street — DUMBO Historic District — A Daylight Factory style building with transitional American Round Arch style elements designed by William Higginson and built in 1915. Application is for a master plan for the storefronts, including a standardized signage scheme, and removal of the existing awnings, flat panel signs, bracket signs, lighting and conduit that are current LPC violations.
  • 117 Front Street — DUMBO Historic District — Application is to modify the storefront, including new wall signage, canvas blade sign, louver venting for HVAC, and window graphics. This is the new Pinkberry store location.

Brooklyn Flea Dumbo

Crain’s New York reported yesterday that Nos Boutique signed a 10 year lease for 3,200 square feet ($45 a square foot) at 81 Front Street (on the corner of Washington Street). Nos currently occupies a women’s boutique at 117 Front Street and a men’s store on 165 Front Street and will combine the two at their new location.

The location at 117 Front Street will become a Pinkberry frozen yogurt location.

The new shops are planning on opening in October. 50 Washington Street, which is the other half of the ground level (which was part of 81 Front) will be a new concept store by West Elm (3,400 square feet).
