NOS Boutique in Dumbo
September 21st, 2009

NOS shoe boutique (rhymes with gloss), is Dumbo’s newest high fashion boutique. But don’t look at it as a fashion store that sells expensive shoes and accessories, says Racquel Nosworthy, Owner. Her goal for NOS shoe boutique is to create a unique shopping experience centered around having fun with life and feeling good about yourself. She has a vision that believes in the smaller, emerging, funky, sexy, and extremely talented shoe designers. When we sat down with Ms. Nosworthy, it was clear to us that she has a true passion for the footwear, accessories, and layered apparel sourced for her store. She shares that enthusiasm and knowledge with her customers. The store proudly displays the new shoe ‘talent’ and is perfect for the customer looking for that unique item that can’t be found at a high end department store.
The collection of shoes and accessories throughout the store lets shoppers coordinate their footwear with their “sexy” lifestyle. Shoes are displayed as priceless pieces of art and arranged thoughtfully along two walls with comfortable couches that center the space. [Check out these boots for an idea of what you can expect at NOS.] One side of the store is arranged with women’s shoes (the ‘feminine side’, accessorized with chrome and glass decor), while the other side displays the men’s shoes and women’s clothing (accessorized with wood and glass for a tad more masculine look).
She treats everyone equally and has a fun loving, open minded attitude that is so refreshing and inviting to people that they won’t get flustered when people come in who are ‘just looking’. Ms. Nosworthy, also a Dumbo resident, believes in the neighborhood’s appeal and brings her expert retail experience, design sense, service, and passion to NOS. We wish her the best in Dumbo!

[UPDATE: May 1, 2010. NOS moved three blocks from 68 Jay Street to 117 Front Street]

Wow, a shoe store! Just what we needed :-\
September 21st, 2009 at 5:52 pm
(No offense intended to the shoe lady, but damn, can ANYone open a friggin food establishment?!?! And no, I don’t want to hear from Loose Stool on this. We KNOW. We still want/need more food options regardless!)

Ladies- RUNNNNNNNNNNNNNN to NOS! You will not believe the gorgeous, affordable shoes that you find there. I bought my favorite boots ever yesterday, really. And Racquel is someone you want to support; she’s fab.
September 21st, 2009 at 9:24 pm
And how much did they cost?
September 21st, 2009 at 9:34 pm
Holly… read the post about Hecho in Dumbo moving out of the neighborhood. The fact is that anyone who wants to open up a new restaurant in DUMBO will have to jump through hoops now that a majority of the buildings are landmarked.
Best of luck to NOS and welcome to the hood.

What does a White Anglo Saxon Protestant from the suburbs named Holly make for dinner??
Reservations!
Shit, somebody stop me!
September 22nd, 2009 at 8:53 am
Mike – I know, still find it aggravating.
LS – wrong! What does a grown woman do for dinner that most NY’ers aren’t capable of or simply don’t want to do? COOK dinner.
You’re such a wanker. You think you’re the only one who lived here before the condo explosion, J Condo, etc, etc? Please.
September 22nd, 2009 at 10:41 am
Holly, you actually COOK?
What time’s dinner? I’LL bring the whine this time.
September 22nd, 2009 at 12:38 pm
shut up loose stool. shut up. shut up. shut up.
September 22nd, 2009 at 1:53 pm
Oh for f***s sake, can a person post a simple comment here anymore without A) this shithead putting his 2 cents in, or B) being accused of whining? What the hell is wrong with wanting more amenities and services in the neighborhood we all love and pay a lot of money to live in? Nothing!
LS – how’s that diarrhea of the mouth treating you? I wouldn’t be surprised if Diarrhea Boy is actually the moderator of this bitch.
Shoe lady – good luck! Perhaps you can find some edible shoes and kill two birds with one stone.
September 22nd, 2009 at 2:58 pm
Holly, does this mean dinner is off?
September 22nd, 2009 at 6:03 pm
holly – what kind of food would you like to see here. i’d like to open a restaurant here but I’d like more input as to what the natives want/need
September 22nd, 2009 at 6:31 pm
Healthy American cuisine (oxymoron perhaps?), a real Asian place (Miso’s quality has deteriorated in the past year or so, and Jimi’s – blech!), even a better version of Front St would be an improvement (nice guys but their food is not very good and def not healthy). And whatever it is needs to DELIVER and not just M-F till 3p either. Something like Siggy’s would do well here probably. Superfine is ok but menu is too limited and no delivery.

hey shithead, what’s your name? big brave guy. assaulting ladies on the blog with a pseudonym. where can i find you? let’s chat
September 22nd, 2009 at 11:21 pm
Ahhh, the beauty of enciting rage via blogging…God bless us all..oh and what the hell is Jimi’s??

I stumbled into the NOS grand opening party tonight. The store looked lovely, the guests were gorgeous, the music was excellent – it was a fabulous party (but since I wasn’t on the guest list, I exited quietly). The shoes were beautiful. I hope they’re somewhat in my price range… but I’m not holding my breath. Good luck to the shoe lady (she already throws a damn good party) and may DUMBO receive more healthy and delicious restaurant choices in the near future.

“assaulting ladies on the blog with a pseudonym”.
“Hey big boy is that a pseudonym in your pants or are you happy to see me?”(rim shot)
“That ain’t no lady that’s my wife!” (another rim shot),
loose stool promises to keep his pseudonym in his pants.(applause)

Unfortunately, poop boy took a break from whacking off his 2″ penis this week, hence the obnoxious posts. He’s ruining this blog for sure. Good job asswipe.
Happy – no response to the shoe price question? I suspect these shoes aren’t even in the neighborhood of affordable for most people these days.
JBrooks – Jimi’s is the shithole on Jay St.
Too bad there’s no flagging system on blogs like CL has. Since poopboy pisses everyone off regularly we’d be able to flag his comments till they were gone. Ahh, wouldn’t that be nice!
September 23rd, 2009 at 11:19 am
Happy said “fab”. Happy probably is the store owner. That made me want to puke. Fab – blech! My gaydar is working overtime on this one.

Sorry guys, but I’m working on implementing a better commenting system. As I’ve stated before, I don’t have time to moderate every comment (I’m just one person with a full time job), and I’m more inclined to allow most comments (except some key word filtering). True, some of LS’s comments are snarky and sophomoric, but there are others that have been helpful according to some people.
To stay on thread topic, the prices are not too bad, from what I’ve seen. Go check them out if you want to know. No need to spread negativity on blogs, especially when someone puts their all in starting a business.
September 23rd, 2009 at 1:08 pm
The prices at NOS aren’t bad… we’re not talking $50 shoes here… more like $100+. But she carries some unique pieces for both men and women so the price point seems fair to me.
Kemp… restaurant idea’s: authentic Thai (the Pad Thai at Rice sucks), French, or just good ole standard American fare.
September 23rd, 2009 at 2:29 pm
Does anyone have their tel #?
September 23rd, 2009 at 2:32 pm
Gotta disagree Hide. I would say most of LS’s comments are snarky and sophomoric. I also know of a few people that have given up on this blog because the level of conversation is consistently brought down by the low brow attempts at humor wrongly justified as social insight. I would think more people would make constructive comments and share more information if they knew they wouldn’t be attacked no matter what they put forth. Seems as though LS’s bullying does a great job of censoring other people simply by turning them off. Everyone enjoys good debate but that has been absent from this blog for a while.
September 23rd, 2009 at 2:37 pm
Oh and…
Good Luck Nos.
September 23rd, 2009 at 2:54 pm
LooseStool adds a lot of excitement to the comments section of this blog
Do not censor please
September 23rd, 2009 at 3:09 pm
I was actually hoping that the dialogue on this blog would one day be similar to that of Brownstoner where you actually have a community of people contributing thoughtful, although sometimes controversial comments to the blog entries. Every site has their pests (i.e. The What on Brownstoner), but LS is of another breed. His comments are so immature and antagonizing that I certainly don’t contribute as often as I’d like or even visit the site because I don’t want to have to deal with reading BS.
Point at hand… this is probably the 100th thread where comments for the actual highlighted story get overshadowed by complaints about LS’s trolling and snark. Trust me… people like ‘crisco’ who find humor in LS are few and far between.

@Kemp: How about the kind of food that YOU are passionate about making?
That’s the kind of restaurant the neighborhood needs/wants.
What it doesn’t need, is something driven solely by profits… there’s plenty of McDonalds in the city.
September 23rd, 2009 at 7:54 pm
Good to know about the general price point of the shoes at NOS. Now, I’m more inclined to go back and take another look. There is a beautiful selection to be sure.
September 23rd, 2009 at 9:06 pm
Kemp–Latin style for sure, its diverse, creative, and damn good…picture it–mojitos, caipirinahs, cuba libre’s, tapas, margaritas, i mean quality..
September 23rd, 2009 at 9:07 pm
Love shoes! Store looks great; I agree though, we could use more food options, especially ones that aren’t cash-only!
September 28th, 2009 at 1:00 pm
love love love this store!
October 8th, 2009 at 7:54 pm
Ok you all need to stop with this restaurant thing…Dumbo is all of 5 blocks how many establishments would you like them to cram down here…Then you would complain about the traffic. If you want more selection venture a few blocks up (a very short walk) to Brooklyn Heights where you can find a wider selection.
