Jazzmobile with Winard Harper
Monday, August 19, 2013, 7pm
Pier 1, Brooklyn Bridge Park

Join us for a performance by renowned Jazz drummer, Winard Harper, and the Winard Harper Sextet. A native of Baltimore, Harper had a natural affinity to playing the drums. His career took off in the early 1980s when he played his first major gigs with Dexter Gordon and Johnny Griffin. Harper’s skills soon caught the attention of jazz legend Betty Carter with whom he would work with for four years.

Harper has been called one of the hardest working drummers in jazz today. In addition to leading the “Winard Harper Sextet”, Harper continues to play with artists such as Joe Lovano, Avery Sharpe, Wycliffe Gordon and Jimmy Heath. Harper has recorded several albums throughout his career, including his most recent, “Coexist.”
