We posted on our Twitter page last week that the retail space on 76 Front Street is being prepared for two retail spaces. As of yesterday, the leases were signed to two business familiar to those who live in Dumbo:
- 72 Front Street (2,000sqft) – Journey Home is relocating from 166 Water St.
- 76 front Street (2,200sqft) – PS Bookshop is relocating from 145A Front St.
Both businesses are located in the 68 Jay Street building, and the new Front Street location will probably give them more foot traffic on the corner of Washington and Front. According to the leasing director we spoke to, Journey home should be ready for move-in around November and PS Bookshop will be ready in December. Other recent 68 Jay Street retail level changes include Egg Baby signing a lease on the corner of Jay and Front St and NOS Boutique opening up a store on Jay St. Wonk, which is located at 68 Jay St is moving to its Williamsburg location on October 1.
There goes 25 Washington Street to rentals.

Classic Jed Walentas quote:
“People’s leases end all of the time,” he said. “People come, people go.”
Imagine that , a landlord looking out for himself. The naivety of some of the people quoted in the article is beyond belief.

So loose…seeing as you seem to know a lot about building codes, city zoning and such and seeing as you always seem to rush to defend the honor of Two Trees, could it be that you are in fact Jed Walentas himself? Plus who else would care enough to spend as much time as you do on a blog about dumbo?
@Just Wondering – I had the same thought. LS, we know you're pro developer, anti Landmarks, pro business, and a long time Dumbo resident.
I'm not sure what I've said that “defends the honor of Two Trees”. It is the nature of LLs to make money, It is the nature of the beast. I don't think the Walentas are any better or worse then most LLs.
You've asked an honest question, I'll give you an honest answer.
I work with small landlords .Smaller than Walentas. I keep them out of trouble with the DOB, LPC, FDNY, ISO, Landlord/Tenant Part 52, even the NYPD, and forensic engineers for the City of NY.
Pro Developer: Yes and No.
Anti Landmark: Very much so. Stifles creativity, limits business ventures and puts financial burdens on all for the sake of keeping something for tourists to gawk at.
Pro Business: Well, I guess so. I'm not sure if that's a position you should argue. Sorta like saying you're for gravity.
If I bristle at some people's stupidity, well I'm only trying to save you from future disappointment. loose stool is sorry for that.

If any one believes that the Walentas duo believes ion the neighborhood more then money then they have another thing coming. Like loosing their office space.

I thought it was announced on this blog awhile back (maybe 8-10 months ago) that the Journey store was closing….no?
Dumbog, you're correct, Journey had told us they had to close down, but looks like they got a deal on the location to be able to stay afloat. I haven't talked to them about this yet, but will post something if I find out more.
Yeah, interesting. They were closing at the end of Feb supposedly. Good for them. Nice to see one less recession casualty.
