let me get this straight. Your saying the only reason there is more crime is because of the recession? That means that people who probably never had a job in the first place, are suffering so much with the "recession" they are going out and committing crimes. That makes alot of sense, what better way to feed your family then to steal ipods and folding chairs out of peoples cars.

I have lived in Dumbo for 30 years. When I first moved here the economy was in a bad recession. So we had many problems with car break ins and muggings at the York St Station were common. Now that we are in another recession, there is less money about and be sure that these kind of street crimes will get worse. Rich Dumbo is a easy target. So even if you have a fat wallet and paid a lot for your home , don't be foolish and assume you are safe. Certainly, don't walk around with your headphones at night or leave lots of stuff in your cars! After all Dumbo is still part of NY and you should use your common sense.

My car window was smashed last night right on Adams and York. They threw a brick muffled by a pillow and stole two portable chairs. Was it worth it for two 9.99 chairs?
Police came and said, well, there were a few more tonight, but we can't do much about it, unless we catch them in the act.
We need more patrols, either public or private. Summer has just begun

SlumboSucks... if dumbo is so bad why are you still here? You are at 99 Gold and therefore a renter so there is nothing holding you back from leaving. If you fear for your life as much as you say then losing a little security deposit to break your lease shouldn't keep you here.

I've lived in some of the best neighborhoods in NYC and there's always going to be something. Fortunately for dumbo, this is a majority owners community, not renters. We are invested in the neighborhood and will see it through the inevitable positive changes. To all those who do nothing but complain, good luck finding your next NYC paradise. Dumbo is better without you.

anybody who lives on the first floor of 99 Gold deserves what they get. Now that's
"Socail Darwinism" at its best.
PS Yuppies are always in season, just like varmints and non native species.

You know - there is one solution to this problem. Move out of slumbo. These animals are going to kill a yuppie soon and it won't be so funny. I live on the first floor of 99 Gold and I have on NUMEROUS occassions heard gunshots and called 911.

Nothing will be done by the inept police force until they shoot a yuppie...

On a side note - I am actually thinking about building a pistol range...just so these numbnuts can get some real trigger time in. Maybe they will hit something...rendering more fatal outcome. Socail Darwinism at its best.

This neighborhood is doomed until the cancer known as the farragut houses are removed.

I shoulda put a comma after "artist technique," in my post of 5:11 July 3rd. I meant that people viewing the structure are unable to get pass the vulgarity of said structure to find a deeper or higher meaning. The artist's thoughts and inspirations or whatever are irrelevant at this point, its what the thing says to the viewer. He could of been "inspired" by 15 million for all we know.
Call me old fashion, but a 3 dimensional sculpture should work from any angle you choose to look at it, without a caveat. I think, don't get me wrong, that is the reason why people work in 3 dimensions.
Yes, I agree, you are the only one defending this thing. You need to get off your high horse and boogie on down with the proletariat.

You did say (and I cut and paste): "with no thought whatsoever to what these structures represent"

If that is not snobbish, I don't know what is.

This statement is not thoughtful or well observed. Most of the critical statements on this blog are, as you say, "heaping scorn." They are just mean and nasty. I am the only one who has attempted to defend this work a little and that somehow makes me "elite."

Your complaint about the scaffolding means you haven't considered all the places from which it is not visible, which I mention in my previous post. That's what I mean by "looking at it."
