70 Washington Street Cabana Prices Rise
August 1st, 2007

(Photo from the 70 Washington website)
A NY Daily News article pointed out that a rooftop cabana sold for $325,000 recently at 70 Washington street. (This reminds me of the NY Times article from a few weeks back on Manhattan parking spaces going for $225,000.) There are a total of 22 cabana’s (which include access to water, gas, and electricity) that range between 300 sq ft to 579 sq ft. The most common cabana size is 571 sq ft that was offered by the sponsor at $200,000 when units went on the market in 2005 and raised to $225,000 by 2006. “The most recent sale price was at least 30% higher than initial cabana prices.” With prices rising so quickly, will more cabana owners sell for a quick $100,000 profit?

Img: 3 Manhattan Bridge Photos from Washington Street

The photo taken from Washington Street at Front Street in Dumbo Brooklyn is one of the most photogenic and the most often shot taken by photographers who visit the area. I’ve seen (and taken) so many versions of these photos, but every one is unique in their own way. Below are three very distinct and among our favorite photos taken by different photographers:

Zoe Store in Dumbo Now Open
November 27th, 2006
Previously reported on DumboNYC.com, the Zoe store at 70 Washington Street opened this past week, (a few weeks later than the Nov 1 opening date, but in time for the holiday shopping). Previous commenters weren’t sure if Dumbo residents are able to afford things at Zoe, but time will tell.
Aside from designers listed on Zoe’s website, there are other additional designers such as Diane von Furstenberg, Ella Moss, C&C, Miu Miu, J Brand Denim, Jimmy Choo shoes, Burberry shoes, Nice Collective (men), and many others. Has anyone else had a chance to visit Zoe?

Where’s the Dumbo Pharmacy?
October 2nd, 2006
[Update: Bridge Apothecary will be located on the retail level of J Condo. See more here.]

Pdhyman.com first mentioned that Two Trees was looking to bring a “high end apothecary” to the space in the 70 Washington building on the corner of Washington Street and Front Street. I was excited about this news, but my sources tell me that the deal for the drug store fell through last week. Two Trees Management’s requirement for a drug store is a unique non-chain pharmacy. Duane Reade or CVS is too large a chain.
A Kiehl’s or a Bigelow Chemists would be nice, but they don’t have a pharmacist in the store. I’ve heard of some cool pharmacists such as Church Apothecary in San Francisco (below photo), Johnson Drug in Waltham, MA, or Merz Apothecary in Chicago (above photo). Anyone know of any other drug stores or pharmacies to bring to the area? If you have any ideas, let them know.
By the way, I don’t work for Two Trees or any real estate related company. I’m a curious Dumbo resident and would like to see a pharmacist in the area so I don’t have to walk to Brooklyn Heights if I need to get some cold medicine or other drugs.
