A filming for TV series White Collar (4th season) is taking place in Dumbo Brooklyn in Dumbo Brookyn on Tuesday, June 5, and Wednesday, June 6, 2012.

A synopsis of White Collar: A white collar criminal agrees to help the FBI catch other white collar criminals using his expertise as an art and securities thief, counterfeiter and racketeer.

The TV drama series stars Matt Bomer, Tim Dekay, Willie Garson, and Tiffany Thiessen.

Filming and equipment will take place on the following streets:

• Front Street between Washington and York Street
• Washington Street between Front and York Street
• Cadman Plaza West between Middagh and Clark Street

The following streets will be affected on Tuesday, June 5 only:

• Water Street between New Dock Street and Old Fulton Street
• Old Fulton Street between Front Street and Water Street
• Everit Street betewen Old Fulton Street and Doughty Street

The 2012 New York Photo Festival opens to the public today, Thursday, May 17, 2012 (11am). Tickets are not required to view exhibitions, but will be required for presentations and receptions to be held at The POWERHOUSE Arena. For tickets, go to nyph.at/tickets. NYPH’12 tickets also function as Dumbo Amenities cards, allowing bearer one-time discounts and samples of foodstuffs, candies, drinks, and durable goods in the area (value: $45+). Tickets are $15 in advance (order here), $20 at the door. Tickets ordered in advance can be picked up during the festival at Will Call May 16-May 20.

According to Gothamist and Brooklyn Paper articles, the NYC Mayor’s Office of Media & Entertainment limited film shoots in Dumbo, restricting movies being filmed for a 6 week period in March/April due to complaints from neighbors that they are too frequent and because of infrastructure work.

The Brooklyn Paper wrote:

“It is part of our office’s continuing efforts to weigh the needs and concerns of the community while supporting the jobs that come from film and television production in the city,” said city film spokeswoman Marybeth Ihle.

The city is only allowing a limited number of movies to shoot in a wide swath of the borough bounded by Gold, Front, Plymouth, and Main streets.

Production companies did not film any movies, television shows, or commercials in large parts of the historic neighborhood before April 1 because of infrastructure work, according to the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment.

Some neighbors cheered the intermission for easing parking and congestion, but others claim any moratorium — even a limited one — will hurt the city’s film industry and neighborhood businesses.

“Most residents do not understand that filming in NYC has a strong positive economic impact on the community,” said DUMBO resident Mark Winkel, who stages events and runs a production studio. “The shops, cafes, and galleries all gain substantially from any type of extra foot traffic — it’s hard times right now, and businesses need any push they can get.”

The temporary moratorium on productions has been lifted, according to Chris Coffey, the Assistant Commissioner at the NYC Mayor’s Office of Media & Entertainment. He told Gothamist, “Brooklyn is open for business, including Brooklyn Heights and Dumbo… while we balance the needs of residents, it is also our primary mission to get people to make their production in this City. Film and TV employs 130,000 New Yorkers. Those are real jobs for real New Yorkers. It generated $7.1 Billion for the City’s economy in 2011 and we are going for even more this year.”

Looks like we should expect to see more filming in Brooklyn and NYC.

The old photo above, courtesy of New York City Municipal Archives, from 1908 of Manhattan Bridge shows the bridge under construction. 870,000 photographs of New York and its municipal operations have been made public for the first time on the internet. The city Department of Records officially announced the debut of the photo database yesterday.

Above is one of the photos that was released (on Yahoo News):

Construction of the Manhattan Bridge started in 1901 and was open to traffic at the end of 1909. This view looking down Washington Street is a well known one. This 1908 photo also shows the buildings on Plymouth Street, which still stand today (left one is 30 Washington Street and right one is 25 Washington Street).

An NBC pilot production is filming in Dumbo from 2pm to 4am. Per Cinemablend.com:

The drama pilot Notorious over at NBC has cast the leading role; Meagan Good has taken the role as Joanna Locasto, a detective who returns undercover to the home of the wealthy family where she grew up to investigate the murder of a friend. If it goes to series it will mean the first regular series role for Good.

An independent film produced by Atlantic Pictures will be filming in Dumbo on Washington Street from 1pm to 8pm. “People Kissing” is a French independent film.

A feature film called “Now You See Me” starring Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Isla Fisher, Mark Ruffalo, and Morgan Freeman is being shot. According to IMDB, “Now You See Me” is a thriller about “FBI agents tracking a team of illusionists who pull off bank heists during their performances and reward their audiences with the money.”

A commercial for Fiat called “Supply and Demand” is being filmed along Washington Street.

A TV movie called “Golden Boy” is being filmed around Front and Washington Street. According to IMBD, “Golden Boy” is a TV drama “about the making of a man that tracks one cop’s meteoric rise from officer to detective to police commissioner.”

Question: Did NYC do away with filming permit numbers? None of these filming notices have them.

A TV show with the project name “UR Answer” is filming in Dumbo Brooklyn today between 5am-11pm. If anyone has details on what this is, please comment below.

Related, it seems to be full season for film crews in Dumbo, and residents are debating about the benefits of these filmings. See recent comment threads here and here for discussion. One resident suggested going to NYC Office of Film and Broadcasting to send letters.
