Join Jam On DUMBO this Sunday as part of their 2012 Winter Concert Series, held at Superfine restaurant, 126 Front Street, Brooklyn.

For each of the two (remaining) concerts, doors open at 4 pm, and the bands will play from 4:30-5:30 pm. Tickets are $20 per family, available at the door (cash only). Superfine will be providing a special kids menu before and after the concerts, and there will be free face-painting and balloons for the kids!

“War, Politics, Fashion”

Dumbo based VII Photo and Blue Barn Pictures have teamed up to create free web seminar series in which VII photographers talk about their expansion into new areas of creative and commercial work. The third seminar (of five) is by photographer Christopher Morris who has embraced conflict photography, political coverage, portraiture and fashion during his career. Christopher will lead the workshop through the process of working in several platforms. He will demonstrate his assignment process, which typically includes shooting stills in color while simultaneously shooting mono video from which he can subsequently edit stills for additional markets.

CHRISTOPHER MORRIS, one of the founding members of VII, will lead the third of VII’s Visual Journey seminars, in which he will talk about his process of working in several platforms simultaneously and learning to see afresh in each. He will demonstrate his assignment process, which typically includes shooting stills in color while simultaneously shooting video from which he subsequently edits stills for additional markets.

Christopher Morris’ first career was established as a conflict photographer responsible for some of the seminal images of the 1990’s; his second career was made in Washington where he developed a new and insightful style of political coverage. And since 2009 he has forged yet another career in fashion. He has worked for leading fashion magazines in Europe, been commissioned directly by fashion houses, most recently Robert Cavalli and won the “The Look” award for editorial fashion photography.

Lost & Found intends to demonstrate a cross-section of aesthetic interpretation of objects that are generally taken for granted in daily life. Artwork made from found materials provides the artist with an endless amount of inspiration, as all the necessary components are easily accessible and free to use. This is the art of the juxtaposition, both complimenting and conflicting itself, as the work is literally born from the streets and transformed into something that is new, exciting and fresh.

Through the usage of mediums such as old beat up currency, abandoned pieces of wood, detached doors and tattered textiles, the artist is able to rebuild forgotten memories and forge them into a new identity. Lost & Foundoffers the viewer the opportunity to reconnect with the pieces of the past and the chance to begin anew.

Dumbo-Hot In A Disco- Art Happening — A ‘pump and grind’ event on November 29th, 7 – 10 pm, 68 Jay Street, Brooklyn, with a diverse group of artists who all share a devout commitment to their craft: John Ensor Parker, Janet Cristenfeld and Emil Memon with paintings, Charles von Herrlich and Manzoni with sculpture, Gregory de la Haba film stills and ADLER A.F. with her eponymous trash art. Its a meeting of visions, themes, ideas and ideologies.

The show’s German, Berlin based curator ADLER A.F. explains, vis a vis her grand motto IN ART WE TRUST:

“It’s sort of a spontaneous guerrilla event, devised between the participating artists and myself from dialogue we shared over the last month about the economy and the artist’s response, feelings, towards it. In this moment & time all the arts the world over are in the crosshairs of an financial ‘perfect storm’; rising rents and production costs amid an economic meltdown within the Eurozone and with ‘frozen’ American banks struggling to survive. It is a new world order where commerce dictates more and more complex interplay between artists, curators, institutions (commercial and non profit alike), dealers, art critic/advisor/writer hustlers, art fares, public or private money, etc., etc., it would be nice to simply cut through all of this with a simple gesture: To find a space and come together to share each other’s work and discuss. A desire for camaraderie amongst all artist types with sincere, unabashed and raucous conversation about our livelihoods, about our art. Art exists only in this transaction between the creator and the viewer. It?s an intimate experience not unlike sex. The disco is getting hotter!”

Spring, the design and art studio established in 2003 by Anna Cosentino and Steve Butcher, has teamed up with Broolyn based Chef Heather White to launch the first of many special events, introducing locals to the gallery’s new offerings. The inaugural event will take place on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 from 6:30 PM — 8:30 PM and include a wine and food pairing and tasting, presented by Chef Heather White, who has joined Cosentino and Butcher to develop menus for special events in coming months.

What started out as thank you lunches — documented and posted on the website daily — for interns and assistants turned into potluck dinners with artists and designers as a way of socializing over delicious food and art.

With the goal to nurture social interaction, engage conversation and most importantly, source and support locally, spring will begin offering their space for entertainment, experiential food events, wine tastings, sit-down dinners, creative meetings, product launches, design showroom, exhibition space, book signings and more. As a Brooklyn community-based small business, spring is dedicated to the slow-food way of living – whether it is design or food – sourcing locally and collaborating with local businesses.
