Paranoid Larry and his imaginary band
Paranoid Larry was discovered several years ago on a rooftop here in DUMBO by a video location crew. Since then he’s performed regularly with his imaginary band throughout the country. A highly unique show, blending music, satire, insanity, romance, push-ups and humor.
Joey Cutty samples and scratches live, he’s the kind of dj that’s fun to watch!
Asako Fujimoto
Asako Fujimoto plays analog synthesizer, glockenspiel computer & little tribal instruments. The result, AsakoMusic, is dreamy and spacey, and sung in different languages.
Fa Ventilato
Sound and mash-up artist Fa Ventilato’s freestyle approach incorporates the art of looping, real-time composing and sampling with simultaneous dj-mixing skills. We think this is some of the more interesting music you’ll hear. And he’s very handsome, ahem.
Kenny will make you dazzle!!! change your looks & your life with a precision haircut by master hairstylist Kenny!!!! Last week this was a lot of fun, four of us in the office got GREAT haircuts.

1) Opening Exhibition: Curse of the Black Gold

What: Curse of the Black Gold Artist Presentation and Q&A
When: Opening Reception: Thu, Aug 28, 2008 6-9pm (exhibition runs through Sept 28)
Where: Powerhouse Arena, 37 Main Street, Dumbo Brooklyn
To correspond with the recent release of Curse of the Black Gold: 50 Years of Oil in the Niger Delta, The powerHouse Arena is pleased to present an exhibition of work by the photographer Ed Kashi. In the form of “film strips,” ranging in sizes of up to 24 inches wide by 168 inches long, this format is a new visual context for examining the impact of oil exploitation in Nigeria.
“I see this format as another way of utilizing the visual language of photography,” Kashi says, “asking the viewer to consider a group of images together in a particular sequence, thereby increasing the authorship of the work and my point of view. I’m quite interested in pushing the boundaries of how still photography is presented and this is just an alternative to the more traditional way of looking at exhibited photography.”
For the exhibit, the images are arranged into six separate series, illustrating the central topics in the Niger Delta which Curse of the Black Gold investigates, including the environment’s degradation, the insurgency against the oil industry, and the human cost. Each grouping of Kashi’s work reveals the ubiquity of oil’s impact since its introduction to the country half a century ago and critiques the network by which the world extracts its natural resources.

First Pilot of One Glass Documentary Complete
August 8th, 2008
Four months ago, we highlighted One Glass Productions call for Dumbo artists and businesses to be featured of their Dumbo documentary. They’ve just released their launch of the first docu-series about Dumbo.
I’m really excited to announce the launch of our Under the Bridges website. Valery and I over at One Glass Productions have been working ridiculously hard creating the first-ever television docu-series about DUMBO, NYC.
“Under the Bridges” profiles area artists and creative businesses who exceed expectations for environmentally sustainable practices and community involvement. The goal is to increase awareness of outstanding individuals and businesses within the DUMBO community, while also emphasizing the importance of social responsibility in urban settings– all in the form of entertainment.
In October, we will be releasing the pilot episode of “Under the Bridges” to the world in a screening celebration. The event will also show the work of local filmmakers, followed by a catered reception with live music. We are seeking volunteers, film submissions, musicians, a screening venue, catering services, and any other tax-deductible donations to make this event possible (details available on the Under the Bridges website).
Please take a moment to watch a video clip from the series. Thanks!
Stephanie Testa
One Glass Productions, LLC
The clip includes appearances from Tucker Reed, the former Executive Director of Dumbo Improvement District, Susan Woods of Aswoon Studios, Tanya Rynd of Superfine, and Ricardo Moncada of Halcyon. Take a look at the video clip above and send them feedback. Great job Stephanie and Valery!

Galapagos Weekend Events
July 24th, 2008

What: Film: Farinelli (Dir. Gerard Corbiau, 1995, Italy 110 minutes)
When: Friday, July 25th, 8pm
Once in a while a beautiful film becomes an instant guilty pleasure. This film is a visual poem, a sunny, operatic masterpiece of bodice-ripping and unconsummated pleasure set in the Dionysian torment and sexual squalor of the 1700’s operatic Italy. This film is dripping with sensuality and if you like dripping films, well, this ones for you.

What: Premiere Screening of FRAMEWORKS dance film series
When: Saturday, July 26th, 8pm
$10 at the door

Tent or Art? It’s BWAC
July 17th, 2008
We saw this ‘tent’ this morning in the Brooklyn Bridge Park and thought someone was sleeping under the bridge.
But a peek inside didn’t reveal a camper.:
