Kongo

Kongo

Kongo is a co-working space designed from the ground up for people in the creative and media industries. Beautiful, easy going and competitively priced, it is a welcome addition to the neighborhood.

Design

The sun-filled loft was designed by Becka Citron and John Marsala from Modern Anthology (and of Man Cave fame) and it shows.

Based on Pixar’s HQs and on Harvard Business Review’s insights on the “Perfect Me/We Balance”, the work stations were arranged to maximize productivity and mental focus, while the common areas were designed to open the mind and foster collaboration.

The first thing you notice walking in is the wide open space, the plants and large windows. Then there’s the art: like a Dumbo mural from Japanese artist Masamitsu Shigeta or the 50 foot image of a 1920’s cruise liner in homage to the Dumbo’s maritime history. This second piece celebrates the fearless spirit of the immigrants, the same fueling today’s entrepreneurs and Dumbo itself as the heart of digital New York.

Kongo

Amenities include a custom made conference room encased in glass and wood as well as lounge and bar areas, ping pong, Nespresso, all sorts of teas, free beer, Argentine cow-hide rugs, magazine subscriptions, microwave and fridge.

The work stations come with 5 foot wide, solid wood top desks, with lockable file cabinets, high speed internet (FiOS)

Easy going

The founders’ goal was to create a space they would love to work from: well designed, easy going and surrounded by other creative entrepreneurs from around the world. Unlike other co-working spaces, the founders of Kongo actually work in the loft, from where they run Chaco.cc, a small strategy advisory firm.

Kongo is pet and bike friendly and features regular networking events like film screenings, beer nights and Show+Tell where co-workers get to present their best work and run ideas by others.

Kongo

Talent

Ko-workers include an Emmy winner producer, foreign correspondents, film makers and biotechnology writers as well as Firefish (research), A Different Engine (UX design), QuesttoNó (product design) and Woodshed Entertainment (film production).

After being closed for renovations for almost 2 months, Peas & Pickles has reopened with a bigger and brighter space that includes a larger deli counter, more seating, and a wall of fresh produce.

The renovation opened up the existing back room and installed new floors, LED lights (which brightens up the space), and extended the prepared food counter to cater to the lunch crowd with custom sandwiches, wraps, burgers, quesadillas, and sushi selections.

Pinkberry Dumbo location closed?

Pinkberry Dumbo location closed?

(While NYC is bracing for a winter blizzard, ice cream is the last thing on everyone’s minds.)

The Dumbo Brooklyn location of Pinkberry (117 Front Street) may be closed for good. We initially thought they closed for the season, but an anonymous source told us that they will close the location. The windows are papered, the awning was removed last week, and the Dumbo listing on the Pinkberry website no longer lists Dumbo as a location. We are waiting to hear back from Pinkberry for the official word.
