A campaign from NYC & Company, the marketing and tourism division of NYC, is promoting local destinations, called See Your City. The ads highlight sections of all five boroughs appealing to local residents. Ten neighborhoods are featured, two in each borough:

The slideshow for Dumbo describes the neighborhood as having “spectacular waterfront access, thriving art scene and an architectural grandeur that’s at once raw and charming”. Must see places in Dumbo include the following:

The campaign will run for three months and can be seen on posters at bus shelters, on video in taxis, and banners on lamp posts.

Mayor Bloomberg, joined by Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, Mayor’s Office of Media & Entertainment Commissioner Katherine Oliver, and others launched the Made in NY Media Center by IFP at 30 John Street in Dumbo today. The Made in NY Media Center by IFP is an incubator space for storytellers, creative professionals and entrepreneurs across multiple disciplines to collaborate and create new business opportunities through education, entrepreneurship and content creation. It is the result of a partnership between the Mayor’s Office of Media & Entertainment, the Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP) and the New York City Economic Development Corporation as the latest step to bring innovation to the local media, digital and entertainment industries.

“We can’t take our position as the world’s media capital for granted, because the way media is produced and consumed is changing dramatically,” said Mayor Bloomberg. “Media creators and tech companies have a lot to gain from a strong, collaborative working relationship – and New York City will reap the benefits of that partnership in the form of job creation and global competitiveness.”

“Mayor Bloomberg’s vision for expanding applied sciences and engineering higher education in New York is rapidly coming to life even before Cornell and the Technion’s campus on Roosevelt Island opens,” Deputy Mayor for Economic Development Robert K. Steel said. “New York City is a global media capital, and this new degree program will help ensure that this industry will remain an engine of the City’s economy.”

“The Made in NY Media Center is an exciting addition to the DUMBO community and a great collaboration between Brooklyn’s growing tech sector and its already thriving creative economy,” said Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz. “This is not just a co-working space, it is an incubator. This isn’t just a place where the entrepreneurs driving the future of New York City’s economy will come to work, this is a place where their ideas will be nurtured and their companies will flourish because of the educational and collaborative opportunities that will be provided. This center will be just the latest feather in the cap of “Hollywood East”, a.k.a. Brooklyn. From Steiner Studios to Broadway Stages to the Barry R. Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema at my alma mater, Brooklyn College. It might be time to bid “ta-ta” to La-La Land!”

The Made in NY Media Center is a 20,000-square-foot space on the ground floor of 30 John Street (between Jay and Pearl Streets) designed by Dumbo based MESH Architects with 120 dedicated desks along with 40 flexible work spaces, classrooms, editing rooms, conference rooms, a screening room, a public art gallery and a café.

General Assembly will be offering a series of classes, workshops, courses, and events to the storytellers and innovators in film, video, gaming, and technology. “At General Assembly, we are building a global community of individuals and empowering them to pursue the work that the love,” said Jake Schwartz, General Assembly Co-Founder and CEO.

Bloomberg also named Ahmir ‘?uestlove’ Thompson as Founding Artist-in-Residence.
