Dumbo may not be a predictably tranquil neighborhood, per se, but a new exhibit by local artist CAM will bring the peaceful world of asanas to the neighborhood.

Craig Anthony Miller’s new work at 51 Jay Street is his first solo show in five years. Rituals of the Urban Yogi features a series of paintings and drawings of asanas, the collective, physical aspect of yoga.

Based in Dumbo, CAM is responsible for the elephant-tusk mural on Water Street, as well as work on Mexican eatery Pedro’s wall and reBar’s wall on Front Street. He also helped found the artist group 303 Collective.

Through his work, CAM hopes to help people overcome the obstacles in their lives. “The paintings are about a lot of holistic ideas, trying to inspire people to reach within themselves and achieve things,” he told Brooklyn Magazine.

CAM’s 51 Jay Street show opens Thursday, November 19, with an opening reception from 5-8 p.m. featuring jazz music. The 51 Jay Street Sales Gallery is located at 20 Jay Street, Suite 1019.
