When we popped into Wednesday’s Indie Media Camp at 30 John Street, the Made in NY Media Center was bustling with digital professionals rubbing elbows and digging into the finer points of smartphone pics, podcasting and making it as a freelancer.
Organized by Brooklyn Based, the day kicked off with a keynote from the New York Times’ Assistant Masthead Editor Clifford J. Levy. “No one has the luxury of not being obsessed about reader experience,” Levy told the group.
Other classes covered growing your audience on social media, how to take jaw-dropping smartphone pics, dive into podcasting and the economics of freelancing.
A panel discussion moderated by Brooklyn Based’s Nicole Davis featured Gothamist co-founder and publisher Jake Dobkin, Northside Media Group co-founder Daniel Stedman, and editors from Medium and Buzzfeed. The day wrapped with a convivial cocktail party.
