A new bar called Brooklyn Monkey opens at 1 Front Street, above Grimaldi’s Pizza in Fulton Ferry Landing today. According to NY Daily News, Angela Raiola (“Big Ang”), a star of VH1’s Mob Wives opens her second bar in NYC.

Because it’s Cinco de Mayo today, next door at 5 Front Street, Gran Electrica will be playing Latin music and serving Mexican cocktails for their Cinco de Mayo celebrations. Other Cinco de Mayo celebrations include Pedro’s Restaurant serving their tacos and Coronas, along with other alcohol and food options (over at Jay and Front Streets).

  • Something is wrong with this story. Brooklyn Monkey doesn’t have a liquor license. My office confirmed with the attorney for the current licensee that nothing has changed.

  • Robert, unless the license is under Grimaldi’s. Otherwise, that would mean they have to close until they obtain a license.

  • Adam, it is my understanding that just changing the name requires an application to the State Liquor Authority and notification to the local community board, neither of which appears to have occurred. Of course, bureaucracy is fascinating so perhaps all of these administrative steps could be made a subplot of the television show. I am looking forward to Big Ang’s cameo at a Community Board 2 health committee meeting.
