One year ago on October 29, 2013, Hurricane Sandy hit the East Coast and NYC leaving hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers without power and caused an estimated $18 billion in damages. Many residents were without electricity, running water, heat, and homes. Small and large businesses were also displaced, forced to rebuild, or shut down for good. After one year, NYC is back. While some businessses and homes are still affected by the aftermath, much of the afftected areas of NYC is stronger and more resiliant.

Dumbo was hit hard but the community came together and helped eachother recover.

Tonight, the DUMBO Improvement District, in partnership with the Brooklyn Longterm Recovery Group, joins waterfront neighborhoods across Brooklyn in hosting a candlelight vigil to commemorate the one-year anniversary of Superstorm Sandy. Join in for a moment of silence as we reflect on the storm’s impact.

Community members are invited to meet at the Main Street entrance to Brooklyn Bridge Park at 7:15pm (tonight, October 29, 2013). Candles will be lit at 7:45, marking the time Sandy made landfall. Candles will be provided.
