String Instrument Lessons, Play Date, Opens in Dumbo

playdate

Play Date – which takes place either in the parent’s homes or a suitable rehearsal space – can accommodate groups of up to 6, and includes orchestra prep for kids already in school orchestras, helps them improve and get better chairs. Play Date also gives parents some time to themselves while their kids learn!

Taught by concert violinist, professional studio musician and early childhood educator Chala Yancy, Play Date turns those group dates with friends into a unique opportunity to learn about and advance in string instruments. Yancy – a veteran teaching artist in the New York City school system whose students have performed for Michael Bloomberg and Joel Klein – uses the unique dynamics of group play in combination with aspects of Suzuki and contemporary childhood music to teach:

  • Violin
  • Viola
  • Reading music
  • Music theory

The benefits of group learning in a play-date environment are known to make learning feel less like work and more like fun. Play Date is offered at the Abundant Learning center at 68 Jay Street, Brooklyn.
