Magic Camp, an Award-winning Documentary Premiering in Dumbo

Magic Camp, directed by Dumbo filmmaker Judd Ehrlich, will be having its NYC theatrical premiere at reRun Theater from June 28th – July 4th, 2013. All screenings will include live magic performances, live music, surprise guests, Q&A with director and cast and popcorn and drink specials. This is a great family film!

Screenings are weekdays from June 28 – July 4 at 7:30 (all ages) and 9:45 (21+) as well as a Saturday June 29 matinee at 2pm (all ages).

Set at the world-famous Tannen’s Magic Camp, the film follows a group of young magicians as they navigate through adolescence while honing their skills on the same stage where superstars like Blaine and Copperfield once performed.

  • I saw Magic Camp opening night at reRun. It was fantastic! First of all reRun is an awesome spot with fantastic food and tiered theater seating made out of old car interiors, which is pretty cool in itself.

The movie itself is very well done, one of the more interesting docs I have seen. You really get a feel for the atmosphere of Magic Camp. Between the precocious kids and the dedicated yet lovably eccentric counselors, it’s full of some very unique characters. The storyline is poignant at times, and funny at others, but leaves you with a happy glow and a positive message about the value of being yourself.

That feeling was enhanced by the vibe in the theater before and after the movie played. There were live magicians all over the place doing magic for everybody, one guy was even out on the street blowing fire! They’re doing live magic shows before every screening all week. I’m going back tonight, it’ll be the same movie, sure, but a different magician from the film will be there, Derrin Berger.

If you like magic, good food, and/or theaters with full bars in them, this is the event for you!
