The Playroom at EGG To Provide Community Programming in Dumbo

EGG by Susan Lazar introduces the grand opening of The Playroom at EGG Baby (72 Jay Street, Brooklyn, N.Y.), a space in Dumbo where children, parents and caregivers will find a dynamic array of unique and creative programming for kids and adults. A grand-opening event will be held December 9, 2012, and will highlight The Playroom’s diverse offerings.

The centerpiece of The Playroom’s schedule will be its 10-week curriculum of imaginative classes for children, starting in January, with sneak peek drop-in classes available in December, dates to be announced. The classes are a mix of local favorites (such as John Carlin’s Kids Music Underground and AudraRox’s Music For Aardvarks & Other Mammals) and programs that have never before been offered in Dumbo. Among the new options are:

  • Fairy Tale Theater, a drop-off class for ages 3 to 5 in which children explore story-telling, song and creative movement while adapting favorite classic and contemporary fairy tales. Led by Child’s Play NY, which was ranked in Time Out New York Kids’ 2012 Class Guide as among the city’s best theater programs for kids.
  • Toddler Tom Toms!, a percussion-and-drum-focused music class where kids explore the unique names and sounds of a variety of percussion instruments. Children will be exposed to musical concepts like rhythm, speed and volume dynamics, as well as naming, sharing, movement, colors and counting. Led by Stephen Hund, who runs drum schools in New York and Barcelona.
  • Dynamic Mama and Baby, a Pilates-based postpartum workout designed to help moms strengthen both their core and their community. Led by Frances Darnell, a certified Pilates instructor.

In addition to scheduled courses, The Playroom will offer one-hour drop-in open play sessions. Open play will cost $10 for one session, $40 for a pack of five sessions, and $80 for a ten-pack of sessions. Exact days and times for drop-in classes will be posted soon on

The Playroom will also host a range of adult support groups, classes and one-time workshops.

The Playroom will host a grand opening event highlighting its programming options on Dec. 9, 2012. Details about the event will be posted soon at
