Hillside is a new wine bar/cafe opened by the folks at Vinegar Hill House. The 30 seat location, next to Vinegar Hill House, opened their doors this week. Great place to grab a glass of wine and wait for your table at Vinegar Hill House. According to Grub Street, you’ll soon be able to get “doughnuts at breakfast and hefty deli sandwiches at lunch. Cheese, charcuterie, and East Coast oysters join dishes like roasted bone marrow on the small-plates menu, and the wine list rotates weekly, offering 20 to 30 selections by the glass ($7 to $16).

Have you been yet? How is it?

  • I was there on Saturday night and thought it was excellent, a charming space and staff were all very attentive. Wine list (mostly if not all European I think) was very interesting. The stout they had on tap was great and like the pilsner they serve, you can opt for three different sizes (little buddy, normal (though I don’t think they call it that) or pitcher).

Food was small plates and they really were quite small but the standard was v high.

Great spot to have on the door-stop and presumably only get better…

  • I went both for brunch and for dinner later. The brunch is a very small menu but is really very tasty and the ambience is perfect for a leisurely fall day reading the paper. The ambience for dinner was just as enjoyable, however the food crossed the line between seriously constructed and foo foo-ey. The portions were tiny. These are really snacks, not small plates. They design on the plate was clearly more an aesthetic statement than a culinary one. And many of the interesting sounding flavor combos, just don’t add up. The smoked ricotta desert is really delicious, but ask for more hazelnut shortbread.
