  • Hi, this is Kathy from 260 Water St.

Since my terrace and our entire building was engulfed in smoke that day, and since I was very vocal about my concerns, I wanted to report back to all of you what transpired with ConEd since the meeting held at Phoenix House.

The representatives from Con Ed contacted me shortly after the meeting, arranged a convenient time to come to my home and showed up on time, gathered various samples from my terrace, my neighbor’s terrace and the building’s community roof deck as well (that was their suggestion).
Both reps were polite, cooperative and very supportive of our concerns.
The sample collecting was done very professionally and they had me witness everything they did.
They were very thorough and very efficient in carrying out these procedures.

They then said they were sending the samples to a third party for testing and that they would get back to me with the results.

And they did contact me about 10 days later and set up anther appointment to meet with me about the results.

The rep came to my office this past week and he went over the comprehensive report from both my terrace samples and the roof deck samples as well.
He showed where the report stated that there were no PCBs in the samples and he assured me that my dog was fine rolling around out ton the terrace and that I was safe to eat my fruits and veggies.

IMHO, I think that ConEd responded very professionally and very satisfactorily re: addressing our concerns and I feel that this issue was resolved in a manner that exceeded my expectations.
And I hope others had a similar experience.

Many thanks to Aldona, the President of the VHNA, for arranging the meeting and for communicating to ConEd and others that they had an obligation to address the concerns of the residents living in Vinegar Hill and DUMBO.
