  • FYI, they’ve got a huge chunk of street parking reserved for this shoot. So far I’ve seen signs on:
    – Jay from York to Water
    – Pearl from York to Plymouth
    – Adams from York to Plymouth
    – Front from Jay to Main
    – Water from Jay to Main

Basically, they’ve got most of the neighborhood parking to themselves.

(There’s also signs up for another shoot tomorrow on part of Water st between Main and Dock.)

  • The larger scandal here is that film companies are making money at the expense of the people who live here. Commercial film makers should be welcome to use any neighborhood, provided they do not disrupt the people and businesses in the neighborhood. The quantity of no parking signs in this area is clearly disruptive.

Three years ago a film company moved my legally parked car into a tow-away zone and poof. It was towed to some lot 20 miles away, and I had to spend many stressful hours tracking it down (I thought it had been stolen and my wife was due to give birth any minute) and I had to pay a lot of money to get it back. All because I failed to check my parking spot every 24 hrs for film-making activity.

Just last week, again, my car was parked legally but a film crew posted signs after I parked it, and poof. My car was moved into a 2 hour zone. This time I saw it on my way to work.

These companies are turning a profit. They should compensate the neighbors and neighborhood.
