I realize the answer to this will vary depending on your individual taste, so for me to say one place has the ‘best’ coffee is subjective. There are plenty of places for coffee in Dumbo and as one who appreciates a good properly brewed coffee, I appreciate the choices. I’ll list a few I enjoy in the area in alphabetical order:
- Almondine Bakery brews coffee from La Colombe
- Brooklyn Roasters
Several of these places use the La Marzocco espresso machine, considered the barista’s choice for a true espresso.
Foragers Market brew their own blend of single origin and rainforest alliance certified coffee from Dallis Coffee, one of the oldest coffee bean roasters in NYC. (See the Edible Manhattan feature about Dallis). They use a commercial espresso machine manufactured by Danesi.
Of course there are other good places, such as the Seattle based coffee chain Starbucks on 67 Front Street and the new Archway Cafe. There’s even a rumor that there may be a coffee roaster coming to Dumbo. We haven’t confirmed, but will find out more.
If you’re looking for good coffee beans, Forager’s Market carries Counter Culture, Big Bend Coffee Roasters, Gorilla Coffee, Kicking Horse, and their own house brand called Foragers Blend.

Dumbo General Store has the most consistent espresso and coffee down here. The others are too hit or miss depending on staff training on the machines or even at a few of them how well the keep them clean. It’s sad to see such a nice La Marzocco espresso machine that’s pressure is wrong and not kept clean.

can one just walk into DGS and get a coffee though? if not, does it really count?
yes, you can just walk up to the DGS and get coffee to go
I’m glad Choice has Stumptowns and is my favorite, but Dumbo could use a Joe’s or a Stumptown coffee bar.
The Genny is good, but sooooo slow. For a great cup of quick coffee I like Jimmi’s “espresso” blend.
You wouldn’t expect it, but The Best Choc Cake cafe has great espressos. They know how to make it right.

Hmm. . . I know we hate chains in DUMBO, but there is a Starbucks (obvious place to buy coffee).
doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the best coffee in Dumbo , thou I guess you can say they are consistent.

almondine is my favorite. delicious, well-priced and very pleasant staff. the general store also has great coffee, but it is very expensive. and as someone who doesn’t eat meat, i gag at the overpowering smell of bacon whenever i have to quickly run in to get a cup. i love stumptown coffee, but detest going to choice–with their slow, mistakes-prone service. i think oveall, dumbo is a great area to get a tasty cup of coffee with many good options.
Clearly it’s Almondine – best combination of quality, value, service. Still waiting for the Med coffee+ Napoleon value meal!
Archway caffe in my opinion great sit down area n wifi
