Dumbo Arts Festival This Weekend

Dumbo Arts Festival 2010

Starting today, Friday, Sept 24, the Dumbo Arts Festival begins its annual three day celebration of music, art, dance, and media (in Dumbo Brooklyn, of course). The neighborhood-wide event is the largest festival of the year for Dumbo where artists use every area of Dumbo as a canvas to display their artwork. This is the 14th year of the festival.

According to the event organizers, the neighborhood will be open to visitors from around NYC and the world to showcase over 500 artists, 100+ artists’ studios, 50+ galleries and stages, and 100+ programming partners. There are too many to list here, but please see dumboartsfestival.com for the listings and information about the event.

As in past years, the best way to experience the Dumbo Arts Festival is walking around the neighborhood and explore the streets, lobbies, storefronts, galleries, the river front, and participate in the interactive art exhibits. Newly added this year are kid-specific events and activities for families. For more info on the family events, go to dumboartsfestival.com/family and mommypoppins.com.

  • You know every year about this time while I'm walking my dog through all those empty streets to the north it's particularly poignant remembering all the artists (most bad) who have left. The corporate approved, USDA stamped, trust funded, internetz hogwash digital projections that masquerade as “art” should mark a weekend of mourning (and drinking, if you will) instead of the world fairsh fanfare found on every recycling corner. Just remember, all you wanna bes, this neighborhood was founded on flaunting the SYSTEM not bending over and licking it.
    Sincerely loose stool

    • Maybe more to the point. This intermingling of “family” and “art” gives a product that is neither interesting for kids and leaves the parents as slack jawed as they were before they “interacted” with it. All this art with a purpose, climate change, gay this, vegan that, recycle, recycle, recycle smacks of a new puritanical morality. Art should be an amoral pleasure, not a justification for wasting your time.
      Mr. loose stool to you

      • two trees pwns

        • That's funny Mr. Simpson. People will think you are my sock puppet lobbing soft balls. Contrary to what you say, this “art” festival is a two trees vehicle for the continued branding of Dumbo as some sort of artist haven. The variety? No different then a cat food company promoting it's latest “fancy feast” or “mixed grill” “flavor” in order to get more shelf space in the supermarket. Never the less the same dead and diseased meat inside, or something like that. Probably has a lot of mystery fillers included, pig snouts and the like.
