Car Break-ins on York Street

Broken car window

Readers have reported recent car break ins on York Street between Adams and Front Street and on Front Street between Gold and Hudson Streets this past week. According to police patrols, they have received at least 6 or 7 reports of car windows smashed or items stolen from cars. Could Squarehead be back on the streets?

Be on the lookout for suspicious activity and call the 84th Precinct (718-875-6811 (store this number in your cell phone)) or 911 if you witness any crimes. Please continue to call so they can log/track the area. If they get enough calls, they will deploy more patrol or even a NYPD Sky Watch.

  • im one of the recent victims, my VW got smashed on the 18th on York between Bridge and Jay right by the stickball courts…i parked on sunday, when i arrived on wednesday discovered the break-in. talkng to passerby he told me that my window had been smashed for days. since then i've noticed at least 2 more cars vandalized parked on front st closer to washington. do not leave anything of value in your car, ever, if you're parking on the street.

one other thing to note…the NYPD response has been crap so far. in fact, the officer who took my report questioned me why i was even bothering to report the incident if nothing had been stolen.

    • News12bklyn,
I (and others in my neighborhood) have witnessed a group of teenage boys, throwing things at women, trying to steal phones, stealing from street vendors, kicking down people's doors, breaking windows of cars, etc.
Dumbo Joe's note about the response form the police is spot on. They have admitted they “can't really do anything” because these boys are minors and it “isn't how it is on t.v.” Nothing comes from our calls to the police. My neighbors had the kids on camera kicking their door in and the police did nothing!! My co-worker had a soda can thrown at her on the way to the train!
This has been going on for the past few years and gets worse each year Please help because the police won't! Shouldn't they at least find these boys and build a file for them so they have some sort of record for when they are of age?!? Please help us!!

  • maybe my yuppie neighbors could stop leaving their GPS, Apple laptops, and skinny jeans in their cars… if they were real new yorkers they would already be trained not to leave valuables in their cars (in the 80's we had our car stereos in a removable box, to avoid a crack head invasion).. You have a clan of wild crack heads a few blocks away….WAKE UP!!!!!!!..YOU'RE NOT IN KANSAS ANYMORE.

    • how does that stop them from smashing our windows? i had nothing of value in my car, they tossed it, but stole nothing.

    • Yeah, i don't see how “yuppie' neighbors have anything to do with broken windows…and the “'benzi box” became more of a status symbol than anything else. if someone broke into youre car back then, most of the time it had nothing to do with stealing your radio. And seriously, enough with the yuppie nonsense. I grew up in this neighborhood, went to school, am successful, can afford to live the way i want to.. does that make me a yuppie?? if so, i'll take it. but don't get it twisted freind, i will knock the teeth out of your mouth as needed! Mr “real_new_yorker” lame…

  • Most of the time it creates problem for car owners when they face difficulty for their cars. Sometime it is smashed, sometime it found as break-in. We have to be conscious and park it in a perfect place.
I like your theme very much..
