Summer Giveaway: Comment and Win Free Coldstone Ice Cream

It’s summer, hot, humid and 86F today in Brooklyn. Accuweather says that NYC will be in the 90s through next week, so this muggy and hot weather season is just starting.

So Snubbr, a site that answers your questions about product recommendations, want to hear your comments. Leave a comment with the best tip on staying cool in the summer. Their favorite comment will win you a $50 Cold Stone Creamery gift card. In Brooklyn, the closest location to Dumbo is at 139 Flatbush Avenue (at the Atlantic Terminal) and one in Bay Ridge and one near Marine Park. There’s also three locations in Manhattan and five locations in Queens.

We won’t complain about the heat as long as we can get some ice cream, so we thought this would be a good way to help you cool off. So tell us your tips on staying cool (for example, a cool place to hang out, best ice coffee, etc.) and remember to submit your email so we have a way to contact the winner.

Disclaimer: Only US/Canada citizens can win and we were not paid or accepted any gifts for this post. Thanks to the folks over at Snubbr.com for the giveaway! Comments will close at the end of today.

[UPDATE: Thank you to all who submitted tips and comments. Snubbr has chosen Joshua Dolecal as the winner of the contest. Congrats to Joshua. They will contact you with the prize.]

  • Best way to stay cool (other than Cold Stone, of course), here’s what I do: before going to bed place a bottle of water (refilled from a prior use, of course) in the freezer. When you leave for the morning, take it with you. Keep the bottle near your veins in your wrists, this will circulate cooler blood throughout your body. If it’s super-hot, within minutes you’ll also have ice cold water on hand, from the ice that’s melted. – Bella

  • There are several obvious ways to keep cool…vegetate inside next to an air conditioner, relax in your neighbor's pool while they're at work, or douse yourself with a bucket of ice water.
But my very favorite way would be sitting in the shade in Brooklyn Bridge Park while sipping on a cafe vanilla frappuccino from Starbucks with whipped cream and caramel on top. The peaceful view of the east river combined with the sub-zero drink of deliciousness will chill your core, leaving you with nothing to say but, “Wow…it's the summer and I'm cool.”

  • One of the craziest ways to keep cool was something my dad told me they used to do before air conditioning: take a head of cabbage or lettuce, soak it in water and then freeze it. After its frozen put it in front of a fan so that the air that goes over it gets a high surface-area ratio and cools the most air possible. Proceed to plant your face in front of it and it actually works (though you get occasionally a little wet from the water flicking off it).

  • Go to reBar where it's cool and work from there. Plus they have great ice coffee.

  • This sounds odd, but go to your work office where the thermostat setting is usually set to freezing and stay there all day. By the end of the day, go to a gym to work out (where it's also cool), take a shower, then head home or go out to eat.

  • If you have to walk a few blocks, do it on the shady side of the street! Their is usually a breeze going one direction so if you have to walk a long distance, zig zag your path to stay on the breezy streets longer or at least in enough intervals to keep you cool. Plan your path ahead of time so that you can be sure to pass a Cold Stone Creamery to cool your core as you walk!

  • go to the nearest coldstone by zigzagging on the shaded side of the streets, iced water bottle in hand with a bag of frozen red cabbages, make occasional stop in air conditioned places such as starbucks, think of the cold winter in dumbo. when you get to coldstone, tell the rest of the customers these helpful hints and inform them that the ice cream is just not that good. cool?

  • It's only for the adventurous but best way for me to stay cool is white water rafting. You have no choice but to cool off … it's also the best way for me to get rid of a hangover =)

For the less adventurous, I recommend water parks. If you're too cheap for water parks, just dump water in a park slide and slide ur way through it. I used to do this all the time until some kid's parents scolded at me, and kept calling me names until I cried… true story.

  • There's no better (and free!) way to relax & cool off than to ride the Staten Island Ferry. Stand on the front outside decks for the most amazing breezes (not to mention great water views). And if the camera-happy tourists are too close for comfort, you can head inside to the snack bar for an ice cold drink.

  • The best way to stay cool is to wear light layers, wear a hat, stay in the shade as much as possible and keep yourself hydrated with plenty of water. Going to your favorite air-conditioned eatery (like TIM HORTONS) and enjoying an iced cappuccino with a waffle bowl of Cold Stone Creamery ice cream is also a fantastic way to keep cool and feel refreshed!

  • Place that 3/4 full bottle of vile pear vodka that's been in your freezer since a friend left it there on the back of your neck, on your sweaty mug, and anywhere else that needs a dose of frozen glass. Replace the bottle in the freezer and repeat as needed.

  • Really the best way to stay cool is to have your mom direct deposit your trust fund check instead of having to collect it from the mailbox.

  • Take Loose Stool to the park, stuff toys and candies in his orifices, then suspend him from a tree and take turns swatting him with a stick till he releases the treats. Then relax with a cool beverage.
