BKLYN Designs 2010 Preview

The BKLYN DESIGNS™ 2010 show starts this Friday, May 7 and runs through the weekend. Since Sunday is Mother’s Day, we’re previewing a few children’s furniture and accessory designs that will be featured at the show. BKLYN DESIGNS™ showcases new and cutting edge exhibitors in Dumbo (various locations in and around Dumbo), and gives us a peek into what’s upcoming in the furniture and home accessory world. A new feature this year is programming dedicated to families with an interactive BKLYN DESIGNS™ Kids Lounge that features children’s furniture designers. Also, the Annual Spring Fling will take place at the newly-opened Brooklyn Bridge Park (Pier 1) with arts and crafts, and music and games for kids on Sunday between 10:30am – 1pm.

Look for the following children’s designers this year:

Throwing Stones Pillows from iglooplay by Lisa Albin Design

Jottable table from UM (a fun table – think dry erase board in a table form)

a bookcase/cabinet from Casa Kids

safari kids table from Palo Samko

table and chairs from April Hannah (a new Dumbo-based designer launching at BKLYN DESIGNS)

For a list of other exhibitors, go to bklyndesigns.com/exhibitors.

  • I was at BKLYN design on Sunday- we go every year and enjoy it immensely. Not this year, however.

A comment on the exhibit being child friendly– my 5 month old was very hungry and I went to a corner where there was no booth, and out of the way of others to feed her. I sat down on a random chair that was placed in the corner (it was not part of an exhibit), when a security guard came up and insisted I get up, she “needed the chair”. Have you tried to stop feeding a hungry baby? I stood up and continued to feed the baby from a standing position. The security guard stood over the chair like it was the most precious piece of furniture and 5 minutes later, carried it into the press room. I could have sat on it for the 5 minutes it took to feed the baby. I did try to complain to the the guy in charge of security before I left, but didnt really get an apology. Happy Mother's day BKLYN Design! Child friendly indeed~!

They really should know better in a neighborhood filled with kids, and with the demographic they are trying to reach….
