According to a Verizon press release, Verizon FiOS high speed fiber optic network is coming to Dumbo. We contacted a representative who could not give an exact date for Dumbo yet, but it may be available to the neighborhood this year. With speeds up to 50 Mbps downstream and 25 Mbps upstream, FiOS is a very fast internet connection.
It looks like cabling is being installed in Cobble Hill, according to Cobble Hill Blog, so maybe Dumbo installations aren’t too far off. Is anyone planning to make the switch?
what buildings is it being installed in? Will 10 Jay be lucky enough for this upgrade? DSL is so 3rd world.
Hey Yorkstopper, Did you find a new ISP for 10 Jay St?
Received emails from some residents in 70 Washington installing Fios at $70 for 12 months, and $90 per month thereafter (FiOS TV, 15/5 Mbps Internet, Verzon home phone). the contact is 347-572-5745 (Greg DeShields). Any feedback from customers in Dumbo?

Verizon has told me FIOS is coming within the next quarter or so every time I’ve contacted them since moving to DUMBO in 2Q2007. I’ve also been told that you can’t get DSL in DUMBO because VZ “wired” the streets with fiber optics (which should imply FIOS should be a snap).
In the interim I was able to get DSL via Speakeasy. While DSL can be slower than TWC’s RoadRunner service, I find it’s more consistent and all services work fine (TWC would never admit to blocking any services but I’ve had problems with VOIP and other services on TWC).
epc, does Speakeasy provide static DNS?
Yes, static DNS, multiple IP addresses, no port blocking. It's not as fast as TWC claims, nor FIOS but I've found it consistently more reliable than TWC for my work.

FIOS is up and running @ 100 Jay speeds right around 35 down and 25 up
How does that compare to Time Warner speeds?

I have verizon DSL in Vinegar Hill at only $36/month. I used to have TW (and nothing but problems with speed) at some insane price.
No problems with DSL. Although Verizon customer service is a joke. (they have a premium plan for customer service at $10 more a month- the advantage? They operator will actually know what you are talking about, although I don't use it as I am a computer tech.)
FIOS? According to consumerist, beware!, nothing but problems and getting customer service is a joke. So in short- TWC- Speed questionable, customer service a bit better. Verizon – DSL always on, but good luck with customer service.

Everyone in Dumbo should request Fios from their landlord, who will in turn bug Verizon, and everyone should totally bombard Verizon with phone calls requesting that they speed things up!

So nice to hear this news. Make sure your computer meets the requirements of compatibility to establish the FiOS connection and run the software.

This was awesome. A great peek behind the proverbial curtian. I always treated CSR's and tech people with respect and honest appreciation for their help. Now I have even more reason to appreciate them, especially for sometimes thriving in such a weird enviornment. I love the little work-arounds that people have come up with too.
