  • Also, what improvements would you like to see at the dog run?

  • Expansion of the park would be key. Perhaps taking over the unused concrete parking lot directly next to it?

  • Is using little peeble rocks (like in the manhattan public dog runs) instead of mulch financially feasable? The place turns into a dirty mud pit after each rain storm.

    • Good idea. We are looking into pebbles/loose stones in the low lying area.

      • Is there any way to improve the drainage or is it a lost cause due to the placement under the bridge?

        • Pretty sure that any attempt to actively drain water from that area would be prohibited by State and/or Federal law since it is close to the River. I suspect that piece of PVC pipe is in violation in theory. However raising the entire area might be a work around.

        • Hi e.p.c. – Yes we are looking into loose stone “drainage” to help filter the rain and bridge run-off into the ground better. We are also open to other ideas.

  • I do not understand why so many dog runs in NYC have drainage problems. All other parts of parks seem to be able to drain. What is so different about a dog run?

    • It is because other areas are made of compacted soil. The stuff in dog run is lose gravel, sand and dust. Not good for the dogs' intenstins, for our lungs or for our wardrobes.

  • This dog run, like many others, has a wood chip surface. I don't understand how a ballfield can be graded not to flood, but many dog runs cannot.
