Jacques Torres Ice Cream Shop Open in Dumbo

Jacques Torres ice cream in Dumbo

Chocolatier Jacques Torres opened his ice cream store today in the Dumbo Brooklyn location at 66 Water Street. The great weather and visitors to the Brooklyn Bridge Park added to the crowd of people waiting in line for the newly opened shop with tables and outdoor seating. As NY Mag pointed out, last week, there are at least a dozen flavors including chocolate-banana, a vanilla brulee swirl, strawberry, hazelnut with chocolate chunks, and four different sorbets including raspberry and mango. Torre’s ‘wicked’ flavor is also available. We haven’t tried it yet, but if anyone has tried, please comment below.

1 scoop $3
2 scoops $4.75
3 scoops $6

  • Nice setup. They have pints and ice cream sandwiches to go. The guy behind the counter was nice. I sampled Wicked. That was a hint of spiciness and deep rich chocolate, gelato texture, tasty. I ordered vanilla and it was not as good as Bk Ice Cream Factory. The brunette girl behind the register was rude and also short changed me.

  • Visited the first day and was surprised when the woman in pink working the register said we had to pay first. How can you ask us to pay when we haven’t even seen the ice cream yet? (their freezer is really small and there were other people crowded around it) We obliged anyway but she cut me off and said she didn’t need to know which flavor I wanted just how many scoops in a cup or a cone. We paid and there was a bit of a wait, they were giving tastings and the people in front of us were taking a while. We waited long enough to observe the lady in pink be downright mean training a young employee to work the register and a man in a “chocolate guru” shirt bark orders at the other staff. Poor kids. Finally got our stuff. The coconut sorbet was fantastic (and fat free!) but the chocolate ice cream cone was totally not worth it. The ice cream was good but we had to pay extra for the cone. Overall the frozen treats were great but the owners/management need to lighten up

  • went late in the day on saturday- not much of a line, but all of the tables were taken. didn’t have to pay first, we paid when the ice cream was handed to us. just had the chocolate chip cookie ice cream in a cup, which was very good. also had the strawberry sauce which wasn’t worth it. didn’t try any others. perhaps by the time we went the staff calmed down a bit, because everyone was cordial.

  • I went on Sunday. The chocolate ice cream in the homemade waffle cone was very good.

It’s $3 for one scoop, then $1.00 for a cone (which I felt was like renting a car but the tires will cost you extra). Total with tax = $4.37.

    I’ll do it again.
