  • David McCollough’s op-ed is great.

  • You know, after watching it, I am convinced on his point of having a park, rather than any building at the site, and believe that this is really what needs to come out of this. The area is just as sacred as any of our National battlefields, and should be preserved for generations to come. Let us commemorate George Washington and the Bridge, and also lobby for a school at another site, a site that is not at the cross roads of the BQE and a danger to children.

A school will never get built on the site, but a monstrosity of a building may. Generations to come will judge us for our decisions. Let us not be as foolish as those who sold out Penn Station.

  • The most iconic bridge in the world, one of the most important battlefields in US history…

What drives me nuts is the idea of walling it off, creating scarcity, then charging for access (luxury rentals) in perpetuity while pretending to act in the public interest — which consists of leveraging public infrastructure (including the school) to make x30, x40, x100 (who knows) in private returns. It’s such a racket!!!

…the collusion with SCA is probably criminal as well. The whole thing is so obviously wrong.

  • It all boils down to this:

To those who feel there should be compromise on this issue, you are sending a message that our laws are for sale to the highest bidder. TwoTrees knew what the laws are. Any ‘compromise’ beyond the current zoning is an admission that CEOs are above the law we ‘little people’ all are subject to. If this is true, than Bernie Madoff should be released from jail.

  • I think a national park is a wonderful idea but since that’s not going to happen I have to look for the greatest public good.
After years of over building, and now with the encroachment of Manhattan style apartment towers (25 stories and more), someone is finally giving us a school.
Yassky failed to deliver on this promise as did Markowitz, Millman and Connor.
And since the whole desecration of a National Monument thing is just so much over heated air, I find myself supporting the Dock St. project.
There needs to be good oversight by both Government and the public but all this screaming and shouting, rant’in and rav’in doesn’t serve any good purpose that I can see.

  • Yawn,

History is filled with disasters done in the name of the ‘Public good’. You say you want a school? You say a National Park is a good idea? Then put action to your words DA, petition the Gov’t via eminent domain to seize the land.

You you keep harping on this school that is not a done deal. After the laws get changed, then real studies about a school get done, and a school under a source of particulate matter won’t fly. A school which is at the cross roads of the BQE on and off ramps is a danger. It will never happen, and how will you feel then?

And as far as shouting a screaming, if you think it is a wrong tactic, then perhaps you need to read up on Susan B Anthony and Dr. Martin Luther King.
