Washington Street Parking Rules Updated

Washington St Parking Sign (10Mar2009)

As reported yesterday on Brooklyn Paper and by readers of this blog, the west side of Washington St between York and Water Streets changed from alternate-side-of-the-street parking zone into a 2 hour parking zone except Sundays. Residents who park on Washington Street lost approximately 20 spaces. However, businesses along Washington Street benefit from the 2 hour weekday parking while shoppers park there.

  • If the city is going to continue to take away parking spots from neighborhood residents then they MUST supply additional safety for those same residents who are forced to park further away from their homes and on less desireable blocks (i.e. dark and deserted).

  • Anon,
So what you’re bleating about is , If you live in a safe neighborhood you are entitled to a safety corridor to wherever to park your car because of some alleged inconvenience perpetrated on you by the city? That’s funny. If the 84th works hard to make your block the safest in the precinct, then you have the right to be that safe anywhere you go? At this point Anon, you have the right to sell your Land Rover Sport and knuckle drag down the steps to the F train.

  • I don’t own a Land Rover. I have a ’93 piece of sh*t and I need it to get to places where the trains don’t go. Yes, less advantaged people do own cars in the nabe. But if the city is going to take away free parking from residents (with the incentive of making more money on tickets), they should make efforts to add cameras or patrol to the stretches outside the neighborhood where I personally don’t like to tread late at night alone. And no, I don’t live on Washington. And no I’m not a yuppie. And no, I’m not from Ohio. I just want safe streets.

  • The current administration is not at all sympathetic to car owners as are many of the bicycle seat sniffers in the neighborhood. Anon, don’t call it “free parking”. It’s not, every time you fill up you pay tax, every time to register or renew you pay, every toll pays toward the “free parking”. Whining about parking in unsafe neighborhoods gains no sympathy from coprophiles like devo. His wet dream of NYC is every man, woman, and child huffing and puffing over the Manhattan Bridge singing the L’Internationale. Why should you be entitled to safe parking in a bad neighborhood when people who live there aren’t safe.

  • As is typical of the City. ABC Carpet closed down because they were unable to get some kind of parking scheme around their store. It was a bitch getting a Persian hall runner home on your fixed gear. Relentlessly behind the curve.

  • ok, that’s it – I am officially done reading this blog. This loose stool person has just ruined it for me, too. I really don’t understand why the owner of this blog would rather defer to this sociopath rather than keep readers reading. I am far too irritated at just the thought of dumbonyc.com to visit again. too bad – was an otherwise informative blog. Guess the adv dollars don’t care. Give it time. What a shame.
