What: Brooklyn Friends School Winter Crafts Fair
When: December 6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: 375 Pearl Street, Brooklyn, NY (around the corner from the Marriott Hotel)

The annual Brooklyn Friends School Winter Crafts Fair will take place on December 6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Downtown Brooklyn, right around the corner from the Marriott Hotel, at 375 Pearl Street.

While the main event features 45 local artisans selling unique holiday gifts, the fair offers locally produced food, carnival games, a book fair, and all-day entertainment for children and families.

And you can feel good about it, because proceeds benefit the Horizons at Brooklyn Friends School, an academic enrichment program the school provides for children at PS 307 and PS 287 in Fort Greene.

From top to bottom, the school building will be a winter wonderland. Children from ages 2 to 12 will enjoy bouncing rides, face-painting, and carnival games, spend time learning about and producing old-fashioned holiday crafts, and help build life-size Gingerbread Men.

There will be strolling singers and a student jazz band, and a professional photographer’s booth will be set up for holiday-themed portraits. From cupcake decorating to composting and karate demonstrations, there will be fun activities for all. Winter wreaths and plants, fresh from the Canarsie market, will be on sale, and there will be a special section for craft projects created by Brooklyn Friends School’s youngest children.

Childcare is available so that parents have opportunities to survey the vast array of fresh, local and inspired crafts and gifts from quiltmakers, potters, jewelers, needlework artisans, and apparel designers. Among those featured at the Fair are the Brooklyn Local Collaborative, Handprint Books, children’s book authors Tad Hills and Laura Ljungkvist, Purple Dragon Quilts, Lotus Jayne Southeast Asian handcrafts, and Soul Journey Jewels. See brooklynfriends.org for a preview.

  • I’d just like to take a moment to rant about Foragers. Price inflation much? Every time I peruse that store I walk out in disgust. Say what you will about the evil Peas ‘N’ Pickles/Bridgefresh empire… nowhere is there more flagrant price gauging than at Foragers. Even on basic stuff like yogurt or milk… they charge a good $.50-$1 more than PP and Bridge–for the same brand names. It’s gross and I refuse to shop there.

  • To add to this thread it seems like nowadays whenever you add the words “organic” or “green” to whatever you sell you are allowed to charge an enormous amount of money. Even these dry cleaners in the area charge ridiculous amounts of money in the name of “organic cleaning”. Give me the regular cleaning and charge me a little less. wtf?!?!?

  • “ORGANIC” – a buzzword used to extract money from dumb hipsters who think they’re “helping the environment” or something similar.
