  • why anyone waits on that line for over an hour when you can just call up and scoop up a pie is beyond me.

  • Horray! Please tourists – stay on the Manhattan side of the Bridge!

BTW – you can’t just call up… they often don’t answer the phone… and make you stand in line even for take-out (unless you’re a neighbor).

  • if they’re looking to expand, seems they’re looking to make extra $$$. Surely, starting delivery would be a much simpler (and cheaper) way to bring in a lot of extra $$$??

  • What is so great about their pizza? Seriously, can someone explain in an articulate manner what makes this pizza so damn special that one would stand hours in line for it?..

  • If you’re that naive to ask newgirl. Try eating a papa johns pie then eat a grimaldi’s pie. Then in an articulate manner you can explain the pizzagasm that you just had after eating Grimaldi’s.

  • newgirl why don’t you just get out and try it and let US know, instead of posting another know nothing, vacuous post?

  • calenula, you sound mean and angry. This is just a silly post about pizza, keep it in perspective.

And crackey, old friend, I’m aware that Grimaldi’s is better than Papa john’s. Who’s going to stand hours in line for Papa John’s? What I was trying to understand is what makes Grimaldi’s so much better than, say, the hundreds of other wood-burning-stove finger-licking-good pizza joints all over Brooklyn?

  • no local stands in line for hours to get pizza…we order out Ms. authentically vinegar hill.

What makes it good..fresh mozzarella, fresh basil, thin crust and great char..Once you eat grimaldi’s you cant go back and eat front st. also, dont worry as grimaldi’s is run down looking so it wont upset the natives in the projects like 99 gold…

  • whatsa matter, newgirl, wasn’t my comment ARTICULATE enough for you?

if you’d rather stay in your ignorant little bubble, why not try reading online reviews about it instead of asking fellow bloggers to come up with something ARTICULATE ENOUGH to satisfy your curiosity.

  • Dude. You take pizza way too seriously.

  • I had a Grimaldi’s a couple of times over the summer. It was pretty good, but not really better than some of the other authentic Brooklyn pizzarias that you don’t have to queue up for an hour to get served in.

    Calendula – you’re a pizza snob

  • id rather go to DiFaras, Totonnos, L&B, Lucali, or Frannys than deal with the line and ‘tude at grimaldis.

  • its a damn shame. grimaldi’s ten years ago was the best pizza in town. its still ok but went downhill a lot from the old standard.

  • Newgirl, Grimaldi’s is different than all of “the hundreds of other wood-burning-stove” pizza joint due to the fact that they burn coal and not wood. According to their website this allows them to achieve a higher temperature making for better pizza.

    http://www.grimaldis.com/greatpizza.htm

It is also stated on the site that it is illegal to build new coal ovens in Manhattan so it should be interesting to see how their new place compares to the original.

Regardless, the best pizza is just a matter of personal preference. I’m just glad that there enough choices out there to satisfy almost everyone.

  • Speaking of Pizza…Anyone know the status of Ignazio’s around the corner from Grim’s on Water Street?

Posts on the web and store window signage for this place “coming soon” go back at least to August 2007.

  • Why is everyone so mean to newgirl? None of you were ever new to this neighborhood? You were all born in your current apartments, just as you are today with a piece of Grimaldi’s pizza in your mouth?

  • Thanks to all the awesome people for posting sensible comments and especially to “K” for standing up for me (your post cracked me up). I may be new to the neighborhood, but I’ve lived in New York my whole life. The thing is, I can’t eat at Grimaldi’s anyway–because I’m a vegan. So that’s why I was curious for someone to explain to me what makes this place so superior to some of the other stellar pizza joints around town. Because I remember eating a few memorable slices of pizza in the city, back when I ate dairy. Like Cono’s in East Williamsburg (now gone) etc.

  • ah, that explains it. vegans think they know it all. except what their cross streets are apparently..

k, you are sensible but go back and read some blatently foolish coments from newgirl about 99 gold and its residents (no, i dont live there) and you will see why people are meanspirited.

  • Ignazio’s has had a DOB SWO posted on the door for several weeks. I haven’t seen any work done inside since maybe August.

  • Disappointing. The last thing this neighborhood needs is another Pizza restaurant. The only folks who may frequent this place are stupid tourists. So much for the sophistication of the neighborhood.
