Vendy Awards This Weekend in Dumbo

The Vendy Awards will be coming to Dumbo tomorrow (Oct 18) at the Tobacco Warehouse to compete for the prize of the best street vendor. Serious Eats New York has been profiling and following the street vendors. Tickets are $80 in advance, and $100 at the door. It is a fundraiser to support the Street Vendor Project of the Urban Justice Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides a voice for the thousands of people who sell food and merchandise on the streets of our city. As attendees, you’ll get all the free food you can eat from the city’s best street chefs and an open bar of wine, beer, and soda. Music and performances are also provided. At the end of the judging, one vendor will receive the Silver Vendy Cup.

If anyone can make it, please let us know your winners.

  • Calexico was voted the winner by the panel of judges but came in no higher than third in the popular vote. Kwik Meal was my winner, followed closely by the other four who tied for second. I thought Calexico was very good but familiar. Heavenly Delights from the Bronx was fabulous but I think easy to overlook. Kwik Meal was probably my favorite though it was hard to vote against the Biriyani Cart or Soler Dominican. So much, So little time! A great and worthwhile event that apparently raised $30,000 for the Urban Justice Center.
