  • Love this festival, but is the really loud and mediocre band on the corner of Washington and Front Street necessary? All day and into the late evening? Does anyone know if this is sponsored by the pizza restaurant or the festival?

  • YES! Front St. Pizza is behind it. It is waaay too loud and it’s going to go on all day and night. I think it is sooo sleazy for the pizza owner to do this. There are 2 residential buildings right there, another 4 right next door in either direction. Who enjoys this music and how loud it is? No one. Possibly a few day trippers? Who are his customers? Neighborhood residents and workers in Dumbo- who he’s happy to torture for a couple of days. We don’t want it. If you find it obnoxious also, please call 311 and or the 84th precinct.

  • Dear Expert Music Critic, That band almost pre-dates Dumbo fest – they have been present at almost every kind of fabulous Brooklyn-based arts scene I’ve been to. They work hard to bring energy and a sense of celebration wherever they go – consider it a piece of public art. Rather than being a critic from a distance, why don’t you walk over to them and give them some of your expert musical insights. Surely they could learn so much from you.

  • O wise and superior art arbiter Jane, Lois was complaining about the decibel level as much as the quality. Arts Festival, I’m sure we’re all for it, but loud music all day and into the night right under 2-4 residential buildings? Why not in the park or the equally fabulous (I’m sure you think so) green triangle at Pearl Street? If the Pizza owner is so enamored with the neighborhood, why a giant F You to his regular customers- the residents? It’s very loud and it’s going to be all night, probably tomorrow as well- double F You from Front St. Pizza to all of us.

  • I practically live right above it. I’m rooting hard for rain, wind and lightening.

  • do you remember moving to an artists district? the festival has been around longer than the building you’re living in. put up with the artists for 2.5 days per year, we’re forced to put up with you 365 days a year. just a thought.

  • Awwww we’re such a blight on Dumbo aren’t we. Glad to know you’re bitter for 362.5 days a year though.

Not sure that complaining about a loud band means that one isn’t supportive of the rest of the weekend’s activities or the artists for that matter, especially if one leases space in another building for several designers.

Simply griping about a pizza place that makes awful pizza, by the way, and just has never gone out of its way to even acknowledge that not every one appreciates the band playing well into the night.

  • There’s something we can all agree on. They really make the worst pizza in Brooklyn.

  • Lois here again. Just because I don’t want loud music piped into my apartment all weekend doesn’t mean I don’t support this artistic district! I actually work in the arts, and have for the last 20 years and have lived in Dumbo for a pretty long time so this is not the first time I’ve had to put up with this. I’m only asking that this restaurant consider its regular customers. Also, fyi, I went into the pizza joint and asked the owner/manager how long the band was playing. He joked that he had a permit until midnight and then after seeing my distraught face said, “Just kidding, until 10 pm.”

  • Oh, I just wanted to add that I wouldn’t even mind it if it were 2 or 3 hours of playing, or just the afternoon, but it’s 8 hours of music with occassional breaks.

  • Oh c’mon. There is nothing wrong with complaining about loud music that goes on well past midnight right under several residential buildings, especially buildings with many young children. It has nothing to do with not appreciating or enjoying the arts festival. Give me a break.

  • I moved to Dumbo in January and I’ve been disappointed with our local pizza choices. I always have a romantic notion of Brooklyn producing the best pizza but I just haven’t found it yet. I’ve tried Front St and the place on Henry St and haven’t been impressed by either. I’m too lazy to brave the mobs at Grimaldi’s.

Does anyone have any recommendations for me?

  • Nuala, you can always call Grimaldi’s and pick up your order to bypass the lines.

  • Ridiculous as it seems, I’ve found Papa John’s delivery to be better than all the other choices around here.

  • Fascati’s, won’t blow you away but its the best option.
    Can’t “always call Grimaldi’s”
A lot of the time they won’t take pick up orders over the phone. They stink. Pizza there went down hill too.

  • If you can prove you live in the neighborhood, you don’t have to wait in line at Grimaldi’s. “Neighbors don’t wait in line” – if you get grief, just ask for Frank. But, be discrete, so as not to piss off the people in line. Don’t bother calling.

  • OMG, no doubt. In fact, most of their food sucks. It’s amazing they are so busy all the time. Why the hell doesn’t 2 trees rent to more food establishments?

  • Yep, they only want to rent to galleries and the like, more money less funk I suppose.
