  • taxes on J listing must be a mistake – should be annually maybe?

  • I don’t know, but I want to make a friend in J CONDO so I can see what all the hype is about. Also a 70 Washington friend would be nice too, preferrably one with a 325k cabana. Anyone from these buildings want to hangout with a 42 Main St. guy?

  • BR, that’s probably a mistake on the Corcoran site. Other J Condo listing tax range in the $20-30 per month. Thanks for pointing that out.

PeterS, that would be nice. I’m sure you can check out J on the weekends when they have open houses if you’re interested. Don’t 42 Main have balconies?

  • peter s,

as you mentioned in a previous post about keeping “bk real” and your troubles coming up with your dogs kibble funds, im just curious as to what rent/mortgage is for 42 Main or is that handled by the very real parents?

  • In case you forgot…

“Speaking of local businesses… the panhandlers have a much better business plan than most of these new places. Cheeky Dogs, 100 haircuts at the new salon? Are people this rich in my neighborhood? I’m having trouble paying for my dog’s kibble. I’m almost certain that the panhandling is much more lucrative than these wannabe Tribeca shops. Here are some ideas for people in the neighborhood with a lot of money. We need a Vietnamese Sandwich place for quick cheap good bites on the go. We need Chez Oskar from Fort Greene to open up shop. A Cafe Habana Truck outside of our horrific town triangle. A trendy thrift store like the ones you can find in Greenpoint. A clean chinese restaurant or something darn amazing like Joe’s Shanghai or Congee Village. We need less Korean/Spanish Delis and have a real food market like Trader Joe’s. We need to stop pretending that we want highend stuff and keep Brooklyn Real!”

  • Haha Curious George.

Are you stalking me on this site? To answer your question I am paying 3452 for my mortgage and 892 for my Common Charges. I rent out two rooms for 1400 each to keep up. Thanks for asking.

  • ha, just curious to know how someone can live in dumbo (not to mention own a 3 bedroom while probably forking over a heavy down payment) and not be aware of its demographic. thanks for being honest with my question though. for someone who recommends we keep brooklyn real, do you not see the irony that your living situation presents. sorry to be picking on you but your comments appear to be a bit hypocritical, sorta like the trust fund hipster type in williamsburg. im only saying this because im probably a little jealous of your situation plus i like to call them how i see them.

  • How come there is no mention within this feature of the 36 million dollar lawsuit regarding the shoddy conversion of 50 Bridge?

  • Good point about the lawsuit; I’m sure anyone who is researching the building will find a lot of info on various real estate websites. Also see previous DumboNYC link:

  • It’s cool Curious George. I’m just saying anyone can afford a $100 haircut or $10.00 granola at Peas & Pickles, but do you really want to pay that much. I’m a frugal Brooklynite, but I will spend $100 towards by home… Not on my hair.

  • interesting dialogue this turned into. in my opinion, keeping brooklyn “real” should not be about a blanket ban on an influx of the high end stuff but should be more about a continued co-existence of the high end and not so high end as this great boro continues forward in this modern day renaissance.

i def still like a place to get my forties, 50 cent packs of cookies, $1 packs of sponges and tropical fantasy, etc., but also now like the ability to walk down the block at times for a fancy meal or nice bottle of wine.

peter s – once i finally move in you’re more than welcome to stop by, but only if i get to see 42 main in return.

  • Coming from Germany to NY, I am astounded at the level of uncleanness on your streets and the number of pot holes in your roads. I was expecting NY to be a much safer, friendler and cleaner place. In Germany we would never allow this to happen. I am considering taking my family to Canada where things are nicer.

  • Brooklyn Renaissance, what are you doing in DUMBO? You need to move over to Fort Greene, we have all that stuff. It’s one of the rare neighborhoods that strikes a very good balance between new fancy retail/dining and good old-fashioned Brooklyn stores.

  • I went to JCondo last weekend on Saturday and all you can see through the onsite contact is rentals, which are managed by Century 21 on behalf of many owners. We looked at a 2 bdrm (just cause we were curious) on the 19th floor. The living room/dining area and kitchen were really nice, but the second room was very oddly shaped — all walls on angles. It would have been very hard to fit a bed in there with other furniture. I also think they cheaped out on the shower floor by not doing tile. Just my humble opinion.

  • Heinz – for someone who’s named after a can of beans, you show a remarkable lack of respect for our city!

  • i love fort greene. hoping to afford a nice brownstone there, or maybe clinton hill, prospect heights or crown heights. some day, fingers crossed.

until then, it’s really not that long of a walk down flatbush and over on myrtle or dekalb to the fort.

  • I checked out this listing on Friday. It’s not good people! Why would anybody want to wake up every day to a view of a disgusting parking lot? Seriously? The furnishings are high quality, but not awesome. The mirror in the bathroom is tiny. The floor in the bathroom is cheap. The black countertop is sinister and darkens the room along with the dark wood. Upon entering the room, you’re struck by the odd shape as it its much longer than it is wide. The amenities in the building are alright, but the building has a TON of people, so don’t expect to be the only person partaking. Altogether, its definitely not worth the money.

  • i live on this side of j condo and i look out to 180 degrees of endless sky. sure i can stand at my window’s edge and look down a the parking lot but that’s not what most people will do. all one sees is sky from any point in the apartment. the parking lot will most certainly be developed at some point but to say “Why would anybody want to wake up every day to a view of a disgusting parking lot? ” seems very short sighted in terms of light and open views of the sky.

  • Chief you sound like an angry panhandler.

  • Peter S. I do like your idea of getting more restaurants or food vendors into the area. The area seems very limited in terms of variety and having the freedom to choose restaurants from a variety of price ranges.

  • Cheif says: “The amenities in the building are alright, but the building has a TON of people, so don’t expect to be the only person partaking”…..The building is almost 2/3 full and the gym is almost always empty. Look at it from the street if you don’t believe me.

“The mirror in the bathroom is tiny”…the mirror is a deciding factor in a 500K apartment!

“The floor in the bathroom is cheap”…???umm no, it’s not.

“The furnishings are high quality, but not awesome”…..awesome?

You’re whole rant on the building just seems so um, well i’ll just quote you: “It’s not good people!”

  • RESPONSE TO: PANHANDLERS/SAFETY IN DUMBO ENTRY
I’m going to do something about this. I read this blog entry everyday at work and it fuels my animosity towards these people. I will visit the neighborhood precinct and see what we can do. I plan to print the comments posted on this thread and highlight the major complaints and harassment testimonials for them to read. I want these people out by the end of this year. I want to spend my year 2008 without worrying that my girlfriend will be in danger when she walks the dog or stops by P&P at night. Seriously this needs to stop. I noticed that there are a new generation of panhandlers in the neighborhood and someone needs to take action before it gets out of hand. Better to stop it now than waiting until someone gets hurt.

My email is petersunwoo@gmail.com I don’t mind having a neighborhood meeting in my apartment in 42 Main Street. All those that care about the issue are welcome to come. Any weekend is good or weekday after 8pm is cool with me. Tell me what you guys think. Lets stop talking and finally take some action.
