Dumbo Fight Night – Sept 20, 07

The Dumbo Improvement District has planned a benefit to augment their operating budget through fundraising in an event they call DUMBO Fight Night – the Fight to Preserve DUMBO. The event will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2007 from 6-10pm at St. Ann’s Warehouse. The funds raised will go into a maintenance fund for the restoration of the Belgian block roadbeds and to ‘improve the quality of life in the neighborhood’.

From the Dumbo BID:

DUMBO Fight Night not only features USA Boxing Metro sanctioned matches with Gleason’s Gym, but highlights DUMBO’s dynamic creative community with performance rounds curated by Bargemusic, Galapagos, powerHouse arena, the Room Service Group, Smack Mellon, and White Wave Dance Company. Additional production support for the event is provided by St. Ann’s Warehouse and halcyon the shop.

To round out the involvement of the DUMBO community, we would like to engage you, DUMBO’s residents, in Fight Night. In many ways, you are the stakeholders most vested in the community, and we would like our event to be a reflection of this commitment. At the conclusion of DUMBO Fight Night, we will crown the first residential champion of DUMBO; this award will be based upon the building with the highest percentage of ticket sales, as well as performance at DUMBO Fight Night. Performance at Fight Night, you ask? No, we are not asking residents to go head to head in the ring, but instead, participate in a team activity, such as “tug of war” and a hula hoop contest. In the end, the residential champion of DUMBO will be recognized with a tree, as a functional trophy, placed in the neighborhood with a plaque commemorating your efforts.

Are you a resident of one of Dumbo’s buildings and would like to organize a friendly building vs building competition? Contact Dumbo BID at jane@dumbonyc.org.
