“You are cordially invited to the Dumbo Improvement District’s Annual Meeting on Thursday June 21st at 6pm at St. Ann’s Warehouse. At the meeting we will celebrate our one year anniversary as an organization, highlight our accomplishments to date, profile the challenges we face ahead, and gather community feedback on a variety of issues. We will also be presenting the first ever “Magic Feather Awards” (described below) given to supporters of DUMBO that have worked to better our neighborhood over the last year.”

The Magic Feather Awards
Cruelly separated from his mother, Dumbo the orphaned elephant sat abandoned, misunderstood and mistreated by the other animals, all alone in the world with “no warm trunk to cuddle up to, no one to dry his tears.” Fortunately, he had some friends in his corner, and with their help and guidance (and the help of a “magic feather”), Dumbo had the courage to overcome his misfortunes and quite literally soar to new heights. The Magic Feather Awards will be presented each year to friends and supporters of DUMBO (the neighborhood, not the elephant) that have helped our community reach new heights through their generous contributions and guidance.

2007 Magic Feather Honorees:

  • Dan Doctoroff: Deputy Mayor for Economic Development & Rebuilding
  • Marty Markowitz: Brooklyn Borough President
  • David Yassky: Councilmember, 33rd Council District, Brooklyn
