The Fitness Guru Gym in Dumbo to Open in Jan 2007

As seen in the Brooklyn Eagle today:

Brooklyn residents Michael Feigin and Lawson Harris, co-hosts of The Fitness Guru show on LIME radio on Sirius Channel 114, will open a new, state-of-the-art, 3,400 square foot workout space at 77 Front Street in Dumbo in January.

The husband/wife fitness experts have also been operating their own Pilates studios in Westchester and Brooklyn for several years, and thanks to the success of their radio program, are now opening this new high-tech center in Dumbo.

David Walentas of Two Trees Management Co., the landlord, is coordinating the renovation of the second-floor space that was previously home to a printing house and is adjacent to Gleason’s Gym.

The loft studio will include advanced technology for operating a recording studio and exercise video production facility because, starting in January, the couple’s show will be broadcast live from there…

  • This place rocks! The equipment is great and the way it’s set up is very user friendly. The staff was helpful and knowledgable and I got a great workout on the circuit without paying for a trainer.
I’m looking forward to checking out the classes in January.

    Finally, good fitness in Dumbo!

  • I hadn’t even realized they were open until your post. I called the # and it turns out they are “softly” open (as he said on the phone). Classes won’t start until Jan. but apparently you can use the eqpt. thanks Candy Girl for the heads up.

  • What are the prices like at this gym?

  • I am a new customer of this place and they’re great! Super friendly, the place is nice and high tech, and the trainers know what they are doing. The prices are 50 bucks a session or 90 bucks a month for the circuit unlimited use. They do not have the hard sell policy I cannot stand with most gyms. I like them already! I am taking Pilates and the circuit training.

  • Downsides: no showers or change rooms. I live around the corner so I go home to shower and change. The place is on the small side but it is not crowded! They have cardio gear, some free weights, nautilus machines and a full Pilates rig.

  • That sounds just like the gym in my building. The prices seem way to high for the limited amenities. What am I missing? Why would someone select this gym over the equinox in BH, which is a full service gym?

  • It’s a much more personal experience than going to a faceless corporation-owned gym. The owners are most often there and are really friendly and helpful. I’m going to be going more often now as they are going to be offering unlimited use pricing soon, so it ends up being lower than the average cost of a regular gym per month. I live down the street, so I prefer going home to shower anyway. Either way, they’re so friendly, it’s perfect for a real neighborhood gym.

  • I’ve tried this place and it is a wonderful addition to the neighborhood. And, unbeknownst to Gary, they do have changing rooms. Its very mellow, but the staff is INCREDIBLY knowledgable. The cardio strength circuit rocks and its great for me, because I get bored very easily. If you want to travel all the way to equinox to experience a gym scene, then this place isn’t for you. And if you like the treadmill in your gym’s building, then, again, its not for you.
