Yesterday, September 2, 2006, Loopy Mango officially opened their second store in DUMBO on 117 Front Street. Co-owned by a crochet designer Waejong Kim and artist Anna Pulvermakher, the store carries vintage clothes and one of a kind collectible objects. From their website:
“The new store known as Loopy Mango Luxury is located at 117 Front Street and Loopy Mango Nostalgia (the original Loopy Mango store in Brooklyn) is located at 68 Jay Street. Loopy Mango Luxury carries designers such as Mischen, Twinkle by Wenlan, Tocca, Rachel Roy and Robert Rodriguez. Accessories lines include Goldenbleu and Cynthia Rowley.”
Glad to see the new store isn’t a national chain, and owned by local creatives who seems to love what they do. Welcome and good luck to Waejong and Anna!

Good news on Loopy Mango. For clothing in Dumbo I much prefer blueberri. I think the selection of vintage mixed with non-vintage is much better. The staff are also a lot friendlier. No offense to Loopy Mango folks…I have just never been greeted in the store or asked if I needed help.

Went to the new loopy mango today and it’s much nicer than the first store IMO. The girls there were setting up and were really nice/helpful. THey have a wider selection as well, but let’s just say it’s priced for the typical Dumbo resident (ie. $$$$).

That’s good to hear, Brooklyn Enthusiast. Their Front St location will get much more foot traffic than their somewhat hidden Jay St location. I walked by there yesterday and saw some tourists who happened to be on Front Street walk in. It’s good to see some entrepreneurs opening up unique shops in Bklyn. Also, I wonder if Two Trees Mgmt is giving them a break on the store front rent to offset their prices.

I think it’s great that clothing stores are opening up in dumbo… another one, Zoe is scheduled to open next month at 70 Washington space, but unfortunately due to the new demographics (or the perception) and the high rents, everything that opens up is VERY expensive. The cool thing about nabes like LES and the ‘burg is that you have a mix of high end and affordable. I love dumbo, but I hope these new retailers don’t forget about the little people who can’t afford to spend hundreds of dollars on a pair of jeans.

It’s one thing to clarify store policy to customers, it’s yet another thing to tell a customer that if she doesn’t like the policy, perhaps she shouldn’t shop in specialty boutiques. Recall, I hadn’t shopped there, I’d simply received a gift from the store! Anyhow, setting aside the minutiae of my experience, before you buy, be sure to check out their return/exchange policy!!!! There is a very, very narrow window for exchanges; the policy applies to returns, as well.

BLUEBERRI certainly has a tyle I love but they truly are over-priced for the items they sell. I consider myself to be a professional shopper; I buy high end (vuitton, louboutin, gucci, prada) and low-end brand (express, forever21, h&m) and even at thrift stores, but the things at blueberri can be found in other stores for much less. I once bought a headband there, very cute, but $85.00. I later found an almost exact headband for less than $5.00. I love the store but shop around before you make your final purchase at blueberri.
