Green Stone Spa

[UPDATE Dec 2011: Green Stone Spa moved to 133 Water Street.]

There’s a new spa in Dumbo called Green Stone Spa (formerly Green Desk Spa). We spoke to owners Zev Rhodes and Cindy Vallejo who originally had plans to open the spa in Manhattan but a mutual friend invited them to Dumbo. They were immediately attracted to Dumbo’s energy, people, and location to the water. After some research, they also liked the growing community and decided to offer their unique services to the Dumbo community.

We asked about some of their unique services at Green Stone Spa. “As for what makes our spa unique, I would have to say our staff. They are all very friendly and outgoing, always making clients feel invited and welcome, not to mention all very experienced and skilled in their work,” says Zev.

“As to our services we offer a variety of treatments in both massage and facials as well as waxing. Our massage treatments are all used with natural organic creams and oils. We offer various types of massages, all at a very fair price. Some of our more unique massage treatments compose of aroma therapy, shiatsu, and hot stone massage.” Green Stone Spa uses products from Epicuren Discovery.

“Our most popular facial is our Epicuren Red Carpet Facial. It is an 80 minute facial that will dramatically lift, tighten, and firm your facial skin. It gives instant results and is highly recommended for special events.”

The spa also offers outcall services for chair massage and caters to events such as corporate programs, conventions and meetings, sporting events, and parties.

They’re located at 133 Water Street and open 7 days a week between 10am – 8pm. Specials for the month of March include 20% off massages and 10% off facials. For those who have gone, please provide comments/feedback.

On Thursday, March 3, Verge Art Brooklyn invites you to experience a paradigm shift in art fairs as we know them, a show that recovers the standard of an art fair as a platform for presenting the best work by living artists. “Brooklyn is the epicenter of the emerging art world,” says Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, “and on this long weekend of celebrating the visual arts in New York City, I say it’s smART to visit the Verge Art Brooklyn fair and to feast your eyes upon Brooklyn Art Now, an exhibition representing the extraordinary artists showing in galleries throughout the borough.” Verge Art Brooklyn is proud to host a list of exhibitors that includes international and national gallery exhibitors, resident DUMBO galleries and Brooklyn Art Now participants for a combined total of over seventy gallery exhibitors at nine locations, nearly forty participants for “Material Issue: Artist’s Projects Spaces” and fifty artists for “Tomorrow Stars: The Art Brooklyn Open Call Exhibition.”

Mikey's HookUp - Dumbo

Crain’s New York first reported that Brooklyn Industries will open its first DUMBO retail location in early March at 70 Front Street, the former Mikey’s Hookup location. Brooklyn Industries’ office is already located in Dumbo at 20 Jay Street, but this will be their 15th retail location. According to a Two Trees press release, Founder and CEO of Brooklyn Industries, Lexy Funk says “We will treat this store as an art installation. We will feature art by artists within the company and we will redesign fixtures and overall design of the space every six months.” The store is set in 2,165 square feet and has been leased for five years. Caroline Pardo represented the landlord.

There will be a sample sale at the location before the formal opening in mid-March. Sample sale starts on Thursday, March 3 – Saturday, March 5, 11am-8pm.
