Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Help from Brooklyn

Japan was hit by one of the largest earthquakes ever recorded on Friday, March 11, 2011. The magnitude 9.0 quake, followed by a deadly tsunami that slammed into Japan’s coast, leaving a huge swath of devastation in its wake. Thousands of people are dead and many more are still missing or injured. Japan’s Prime Minister called the disaster the country’s worst since World War II. Japan has been one of the top donors for foreign aid by country, and now they need our help. Please make a donation for relief and emergency services to victims of the earthquake and tsunami. For the next month, DumboNYC will donate all advertisement proceeds for the Japan quake and tsunami relief fund via the American Red Cross.
Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz’s statement on the Japan earthquake and tsunami:
“The devastating earthquake in Japan—one of the worst in recorded history—and the ensuing tsunami have resulted in devastation beyond anyone’s imagination, and our hearts go out to our Japanese brothers and sisters in need. Our proud Brooklyn motto is ‘In Unity There is Strength,’ and Brooklynites have been united once again—as we have been in responding to natural disasters in places such as Haiti, Pakistan and Italy—in opening up their hearts, wallets and pantries to the victims of this catastrophic earthquake and tsunami, as well as their family members here in Brooklyn. As unjust and tragic as the Japan tsunami is, I think it’s more unjust and tragic what’s happening to the people of Libya. I wish we also had supportive statements from politicians and opportunities to donate there.

Its better to give to the Red Cross. Who knows how the mayor’s fund will allocate the money… like any other corrupt government agency, most money probably goes to adminstrative costs (i.e. someones salary).
