From the NYC Department of Transportation: Due to the effects of continuing winter storms on the Brooklyn Bridge roadways, special resurfacing work on the Brooklyn Bridge will continue through Sunday, February 13. Please refer to the brochures (1.5MB PDF) for up-to-date diagrams of all Brooklyn Bridge detour routes for both Brooklyn-bound and Manhattan-bound traffic.

Here’s the notification from DOT:
Due to the effects of continuing winter storms on the Brooklyn Bridge approach roadways, the New York City Department of Transportation, Division of Bridges, will begin an emergency resurfacing project in Brooklyn, with Manhattan to follow. The work includes milling of the existing pavement, pothole repair, new asphalt riding surfaces, and new pavement markings. This effort supplements the work currently underway for the rehabilitation of the Brooklyn Bridge ramps and approaches. This work will occur over the upcoming weekend, and will result in overnight and Saturday detours of Manhattan-bound traffic. From Wednesday February 9th until Saturday February 12th, work will resume on the normally Brooklyn-bound portion of the Brooklyn Bridge, in the areas shown in green.

This work will occur from 11 p.m. until 6 a.m. overnight on Wednesday and Thursday, and from 12:01 a.m. until roughly 6 p.m. on Saturday. In the event of rain, work will continue on Sunday.

During this work, all Manhattan-bound traffic will be detoured to other crossings (the Manhattan Bridge, Williamsburg Bridge, or the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel (toll facility)). The Brooklyn-bound contraflow operation will be in effect, and all Brooklyn-bound traffic will travel on the north roadway. In two locations on the FDR Drive and the BQE, the closures will begin 30-60 min earlier to allow work crews to set up the contraflow operation. Please see attached brochure (1.5MB PDF) for up-to-date traffic change routes in both directions.

Questions regarding this project may be directed to Sabrina Lau, AICP, the Community Liaison, at 347-647-0876 or brooklynbridgeoutreach@gmail.com. For all NYC non-emergency services, including inquiries regarding NYCDOT construction projects, dial 311. Be prepared to give: your name, borough, the project number (BRC-270 C/P), and a return phone number.

There’s a new kids event called JAM ON DUMBO, “a monthly concert series for kids of all ages, and the hottest family event in Brooklyn this winter. Each month, we will invite Brooklyn to dance along with us as we showcase two kids’ bands. Balloons, face painting, and other festive activities will add to the party atmosphere.”

“Over the years, DUMBO has evolved from a cutting-edge community of artists into an artistic playground for our neighborhood children. Art- and music-based programs thrive thanks to the dedication and financial support of local residents and businesses. We view these efforts as essential to the soul of our community, and we want to help nurture DUMBO’s unique artistic spirit.”

A group of neighborhood parents has made it their mission to develop a not-for-profit concert series for kids and families. Their goal is to invite the rest of Brooklyn to Dumbo for this concert series. Their first concert will be Feb. 27, 2011, at Water Street Restaurant, from 3 to 6 p.m. There will be two more concerts this winter, held on March 27 and April 17. Fun!

Episode 3: John Ensor Parker (natureofenergy.com)
Directed by Matt Weckel
Created by David Castillo
Produced by Blue Barn Pictures, Inc.

We love the scientific perspective of artist John Ensor Parker, who incorporates science into his artwork (he says science is half of what art is). He has degrees in Mechanical Engineering with minors in mathematics and physics, so he knows a lot about how they can be incorporated into the messages of his art. Watch this episode of Crossing Dumbo on how he does this.

Crossing Dumbo, a weekly web series of video portraits of artists, entrepreneurs and residents in Dumbo Brooklyn. This is a collaboration between DumboNYC and our talented friends over at Blue Barn Pictures. Different directors from Blue Barn Pictures, a creative content agency, bring their own approach to each interview to create a distinct profile of the person being interviewed and place them within the Dumbo community. The people at Blue Barn Pictures truly love what they do and support the community in a positive way, and for that we’re grateful to have them be a part of Dumbo.

Night Market, hosted by Luckyrice is returning to The Archway in Dumbo on Wednesday, May 4, 2011.

Night Market brings festive Asian night market traditions found across Asia from Taipei to Kuala Lumpur back to the historic Archway in DUMBO, Brooklyn. Serving up traditional Asian street grub as well as more inspired offerings interpreted by local gastrohipsters, this popular LUCKYRICE event recreates the celebratory chaos and delicious energy of the quintessential Asian night market experience–with a distinctly Brooklyn flavor.

Along with tastings of street food grub from nearly 50 participating restaurants and eateries, admission includes custom cocktails, sake, shochu, beer and wine at our indoor bar. Whether you’re in the mood for hot dogs dressed with banh mi toppings or authentic Taiwanese stinky tofu, you will find it all under the Archway.

Last year’s sold out event was hosted by David Chang. See our video recap of last year’s event (done by Dumbo based Kitano Pictures).
