Sad Face Scooter

:-( Ouch! The owner of the smashed scooter on Plymouth Street wrote us today asking for any witnesses:
I parked my beloved scooter in front of 143 Plymouth Street, at the corner of Pearl, right across the street from Chambers Paper Fibres Corporation. It looked like a safe spot. But when I returned on Monday this week I found my scooter in literally 100 pieces. Crushed multiple times by something huge and heavy–something like the massive garbage trucks that carry the scrap cardboard to Chambers Paper Fibres. I watched a few minutes later as a huge dump truck carrying cardboard ran over what used to be the front of my scooter as he backed into the narrow bay at 143 Plymouth to unload. Right in front of my eyes, as if it were no big deal. I need a witness to help me get restitution. It’s going to cost a lot of money just to dispose of the chassis, and I could be fined $1000.

frankly with all of those loaders and dump trucks going in and out, this was a pretty stupid place to park a scooter.

Bummer. There was another scooter knocked over on Monday morning on the corner of Front and Jay. It’s a conspiracy.

Sympathy for owner, but scooter clearly parked illegally. Scooters not exempted from parking laws. But, yes, the guy deserved a ticket, not total evisceration of his vehicle.

The scooter was parked legally, on the street. It was hit/run over, and ended up on the sidewalk.

Update: That’s my scooter in the photos above. On Tuesday when I went to see if anyone had responded to a poster asking for witnesses, I discovered that the scooter had been stolen, and nothing left but some shards of plastic.
If you take a look at the photos, you’ll notice that there’s a darkened, dirty area on the sidewalk, where the dump trucks jump up onto the sidewalk in order to back into one of the bays across the street. I watched a truck do this, and he didn’t even glance at the sidewalk as he jumped the curb. His attention was on the building he was backing into.
If he can run over a scooter like this, what else might get in the way next time?

I did see that the scooter was initially closer to the corner, then someone dragged it away from the path of the dump trucks.

no really, that was definitely a dumb place to park. there is a reason that part of the street is always empty – the street simply doesn’t fit a dump truck turning in and out of that entrance without overshooting. when in doubt, don’t park alone. park where others are already safely parked.

more like letting the victim take responsibility for his actions. Sure, legal is one thing….common sense is another. Betcha he’ll be a little more careful parking the NEXT scooter….BTW, there’s usually a group of scooters/motorcycles parked in that block, on the west side of the street…safety in numbers, and all that.
