30 Main St Apartment Largest and Most Expensive on the Market
September 10th, 2010
If you missed out on bidding for that $25million Clocktower penthouse, the most expensive Brooklyn listing, that is now under negotiation, there’s a Sweeney building condo that just came on the market today (no photos yet, but is coming, say the brokers) that’s currently the most expensive listing in Dumbo.
This 30 Main unit is listed at $5,395,000 with six bedroooms, four bathrooms, and has 4,600 square feet. The listing mentions that it’s currently two units together, that may include an architect plan to combine the units. Combined, there are 34 huge windows and has “full protected views of the East River and Manhattan skyline”. Once photos are online, we’ll post them up. It’s a huge space, but the buyer will probably want to do some work before they can move in. Not sure if it can go as quickly as the nearly $4million move-in-now-condition condo at 70 Washington that sold in 4 weeks, but there’s definitely potential for someone to make this a great home.
- 30 Main Street #11FG
- $5,395,000
- 6 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms
- 4,600 square feet ($1,172/sqft)
- Common Charges: $3,613/mo
- Taxes: $924/mo

National Preparedness Month in NYC
September 8th, 2010
This month kicks off the National Preparedness Month in NYC. The Ad Council and New York City Office of Emergency Management (OEM), are encouraging New Yorkers to prepare in the case of an emergency. Do you have a plan for a natural or man-made disaster occurs? What about an “everyday” contingency plan, if an apartment fire, neighborhood power outage or a water main break happened? Would your friends and family be prepared and know where to meet up? (Did you know OEM is located at 165 Cadman Plaza East, just outside of the High Street subway station)
Ready NYC (readynyc.org) provides tips and asks individuals to do three key things:
- get an emergency supply kit (see below on how to win a “Go Bag” prize),
- make an emergency plan, and
- be informed about the different types of emergencies that could occur and the appropriate response.
You can use the Get Ready NYC: My Meeting Place Facebook application, launched last week to take the first step in making a plan by selecting and sharing your own meeting place with others.
You can also find additional information on OEM’s Facebook page. Go there and “Like” the NYC Office of Emergency Management Facebook Page and start using the Get Ready NYC: My Meeting Place Facebook application. We’re curious to see if people in Brooklyn know what to do or where to meet when there are emergencies. To receive a “Go Bag” prize, leave a comment below and become a fan of the OEM’s Facebook page to confirm as a form of entry.

Kids Yoga Classes Coming to Dumbo
September 3rd, 2010
Bija Kids Yoga will be offering classes at Pomme in Dumbo. Twelve week session begins September 16 (schedule here). Bija Kids is in its sixth year and by the fall, they will expand to five Brooklyn yoga studios. Twelve schools will have its yoga classes as part of their school-day curriculum or after-school programs. According to their site, levels range from those who can crawl up to nine years old. Its philosophy is based on the idea that all seeds – or bija in Sanskrit – have the ability to flourish with proper care and nurturing. Bija Kids founder Lauren Maples says (via email): children learn discipline, focus, strength, and techniques for dealing with stress. They also build the foundation for a healthy, peaceful and happy life.
“In this day and age when kids are generally over scheduled, over programmed and plain overwhelmed, offering them the powerful benefits of a yoga practice just seems natural to me,” Maples says.
If you are looking for an incentive to enroll your child, doodledeals is offering 50% off 12 weeks of Bija Kids Yoga (only valid until tomorrow). (Side note for parents: doodledeals is a discount site for NYC parents. Go to doodledeals to sign up (we don’t work there or know anyone there. We simply like their deals.)
