After 3 and a half years, independent boutique Loopy Mango (117 Front Street) has announced that they are closing at the end of February.

We spoke with the owner, Anna, who said that unfortuntately a combination of the recession and not enough foot traffic to their store factored into their decision to close. They have a closing sale of up to 80% off their store:

Closing sale at Loopy Mango: 30-80% off entire store. Thank you for supporting our business during our four years in Dumbo, please visit our store for your last chance to shop our store. Closing by end of February.

No word yet on a new tenant for the space, but Two Trees is rumored to be negotiating with a few potential businesses. It’s sad to see an independent boutique closing, but we wish the best for the owners of Loopy Mango.

Not surprising given the stillborn status Dumbo has always been. This neighborhood's street traffic consists of a rush to the F and back again. Actually I'm grateful for the LPC making this a Landmark district. It insures plenty of parking for the foreseeable future (even with the J Condo low range Land Rovers) as LLs keep their broken down historic “factories” dormant until a scheme is realized.

Sad to seem them go but sadly not surprised. Two Tress owns they neighborhood and they are not part of the grand plan. They did not get the good rent deal to stay. Like artists they will have to move on.

As for parking, the new plan is terrible. Good for folks who drive to work in the neighborhood and never move their car since no police person ever checks. Meters?

I'm the owner of Loopy Mango and I would like to say a few words in support of Two Trees. They are a great landlord and during our tenancy at their building we had absolutely nothing to complain about–they actually have been very supportive during the tough times.

Sad news indeed. Really enjoyed having this lovely boutique in my neighborhood. It was a pleasure to go into and I've made a number of purchases here. It's a shame that they are closing, they will be missed.
