Dewey’s Candy Leases Space in Dumbo
December 1st, 2009
Brooklyn Daily Eagle reports that a new candy store is expected to open in Dumbo on the corner of Front and Pearl Streets at 141 Front Street. Chatov LLC, the owner of the building (68 Jay Street) signed a 5 year lease for the 900 sq ft of retail space to Proprietor Alison Dewey Oblonsky. Brooklyn Eagle writes:
Oblonsky told Schwimmer the store’s name, Dewey’s Candy, comes from the nickname given her by her father when she was 2 years old. The name is still endearingly used by many of her friends and family, and she wants to dedicate the store in memory of her dad, Freddy O, who shared his passion for candy with his little girl… In addition to nostalgic candies, the store will offer assortments and gift items, as well as private event party space for children and adults.
Ms. Oblonsky commented on the new space: “I am looking to create a new space in DUMBO that will invite customers to stop in and buy their favorite childhood candies, while also creating a child-friendly and welcoming atmosphere. With today’s challenging economy, nothing makes people smile more than a stroll back through time with some of their favorite childhood treats.” Good news for those with a sweet tooth in Dumbo!
