First of all, the paper misquoted the “retort.” The comment was “We don’t need a dance club here.” DB, if you lived across the street from a nightclub open until 4AM, as the residents of the Eagle Warehouse do, you would understand. There are plenty of young families in our building, and yelling and other drunken behavior out front of a restaurant, which happens even now, since this location has been rented out for parties, is not acceptable.

The problem with these community board meetings is that the only people who show up tend to be folks with nothing better to do than micromanage neighborhood affairs. It is a crowd the fears change. If a more active, engaged, younger crowd showed up and provided their feedback, things might be less stodgy around here. But alas, as I learned, the damn things are boring and inconvenient. And the people who show up regularly tend to run the show. Every time I've I attended one I've left frustrated and defeated.
