Application for Cabaret License at One Front

From The Fulton Ferry Landing Association website, the owners of One Front Restaurant (previously Toro) are seeking a cabaret license for their 314 person capacity establishment:
“A cabaret license is issued by the Department of Consumer Affairs, and is distinct from an on-premises liquor license in that it allows for patron dancing in connection with the selling of food and drink. Most such licenses are used for nightclubs; a catering establishment license (identical except with less restrictive rules and lower fees) is usually applied for by a space which is used for functions or events to which the public is not invited or admitted, such as weddings and the like.”
The Fulton Ferry Landing Association’s position is that except for grandfathered spaces, “areas that were previously as of right, such as Tribeca, Soho and the Flatiron district, were thereupon judged to be off-limits to cabarets, as reported in a Village Voice article. So in the same vein, Fulton Ferry, which along with Dumbo has become increasingly residential, should not be the place for a cabaret either,” and is “out of character for our small neighborhood.” There is a public presentation at Community Board 2 tomorrow, Wednesday, November 4, 2009. If you are concerned with this license, please make your opinions known.

Does this business have a catering license? I live around the corner and it seems like there are often dance parties upstairs.

On Halloween night at 3am there were people spilling out onto the streets from 1 Front. I'd hate to see this as a regular occurance. Not only that, at 3am I ended up circling for 20 minutes trying to find a parking space when they used to be plentiful.

Actually, there were loud clubgoers on the sidewalks and streets out front until 4:30AM both Friday and Saturday nights. According to the NY State Liquor Authority, they have an on-premises liquor license, that is all.

God, sack up and shut up. In the words of andy Samberg “you're in New York now baby!” I say the more people and money coming to the hood the better as long as they operate within all laws, do not cause trouble and disturb the peace then let them have the cabaret license. ANd to the Anon complaining about parking… seriously!?

Allowing dancing is one thing. Allowing your patrons to congretate en mass out on the street during the wee hours is something else. I suspect DUMBoResident is not a DUMBO resident at all and more likely has a stake in this building which has had a shady reputation for some time. Folks who have lived here for years want to keep their neighborhood.

Hope this will fullfil my need to slap the leather to the lumber.

Is somebody being robbed? I keep hearing an old fashioned alarm, like a bank, going off nearby. Anybody know what that is? I'm inside, facing Front and Washington. Heard it yesterday also.

HA. I actually live down the street from this place. If there are people outside being loud that would be byond what I mentioned as being allowed. Call the cops and if it is appropriate they will take action.
