I beleive the old protective coating is lead-based. Sections further up the BQE all have lead warnings posted, and are using remediation equipment (tents, filters, etc) Just don’t lick the paint chips and you should be ok.

They’re doing sandblasting to clean the old paing/grub… that’s why they’re using gas masks. Heavy particulate only lasts so long floating in the air before falling to the ground. Once you’re 20-30 feet away you’re good. Air quality should be an issue only for the workers.

Does anyone know if this project is safe (air quality wise)? I pondered the safety of it when I saw the man directing traffic with a gas mask on…
